Honestly, when I first heard “Sweet Home & Hostel,” I wasn’t sure what to expect – the name sounds a bit like someone couldn’t decide between cozy B&B vibes or backpacker central. But walking into this place on Şeyx Şamil street in Sabail, I was pleasantly surprised. It’s actually got this warm, lived-in feeling that somehow manages to feel both homey and polished at the same time. The lobby has these gorgeous traditional carpets mixed with modern furniture, and you can tell someone put real thought into making it feel welcoming rather than just impressive. What really struck me was how the staff genuinely seemed to know the neighborhood – not just the tourist spots, but like, where to grab the best qutab at 10 PM or which marshrutka route actually runs on time.

The location is pretty sweet, honestly. You’re right in the heart of Sabail, which means you can walk to the Old City in about fifteen minutes (though I’d recommend taking your time and wandering through the side streets – there’s some amazing architecture you’ll miss if you just beeline it). The Caspian waterfront is practically on your doorstep, and I mean that literally – step out the front door, hang a right, and you’re breathing that salty sea air within five minutes. Parking can be a bit tricky during peak tourist season, but the reception folks actually helped me find a spot in a small lot two blocks over that most visitors don’t know about. The rooms themselves are surprisingly spacious for what you’d expect from a place that calls itself a hostel, and the beds are actually comfortable – none of that rock-hard mattress nonsense you sometimes get. I stayed on the third floor and loved the street views, though if you’re a light sleeper, maybe ask for something facing the courtyard since Şeyx Şamil can get a bit lively on weekend evenings.

What really sets this place apart, though, is that it feels authentic without trying too hard. The breakfast includes proper Azerbaijani tea service alongside your standard continental options, and the common areas actually get used by guests – I had some great conversations with other travelers over evening tea. The 8.3 rating makes perfect sense to me because while it’s not flawless (the WiFi gets spotty on the upper floors, and check-in took longer than expected), it delivers on the things that actually matter. You know what I mean? Sometimes a place just feels right, and Sweet Home manages that balance between comfort and character that’s honestly pretty rare, especially at this price point in Baku. If you’re looking for something with personality in the old part of the city, this is definitely worth considering.

  I liked how cozy this place is. The hostel is built inside of a flat and the owners create family-like atmosphere.

  What could be improved: Quality of breakfast, toilets need repairment, dark rooms with no windows outside and lower bulk beds so ppl hit their heads while sitting on the first level but overall it’s ok just to take shower and sleep. The location was great tho very near from the main landmarks such as Old city gates, metro station and tour companies meeting points.

  The welcoming atmsphere as if you returned back to friends you havent seen for a while was very touching. Elmin and his wife are natural hosts who go out of their way to make you feel home.

  THE LOCATION IS PERFECT
  Nesting in the Old City a stone throw away from the Palace Museum and 5 mins walk to the Metro station.
  The Coast Walk is 15 mins away with a Mall with Supermarket and Fast food oportunities
  
  What could be improved: It is a bit difficult to find the hostel on Google map but if you contact the hosts they go out of their way to pick you wherever you are.
