Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of Marriotts around the world, but the Boulevard location in Baku honestly surprised me in the best way possible. You walk into that lobby and it’s immediately clear they weren’t messing around when they designed this place – there’s this sleek, modern vibe that somehow doesn’t feel cold or sterile like so many five-star chains do these days.

What really sold me on this spot was the location in White City. I mean, you’re literally walking distance from the Flame Towers (which, let’s be honest, you’re going to photograph obsessively anyway), but you’re also close enough to the old city that you can actually explore both sides of Baku without dealing with crazy taxi rides. The street it’s on – Xaqani Rustamov – might look intimidating to pronounce, but it’s actually pretty quiet for being so central. I was worried about noise since Baku can get pretty lively, especially on weekends, but the rooms are surprisingly well soundproofed. The one thing that caught me off guard was how the evening light hits the building around sunset – you get these incredible views of the Caspian Sea from the higher floors that honestly made me understand why people fall in love with this city.

The staff actually knows their stuff too, which isn’t always a given even at upscale places. They pointed me toward this little tea house about ten minutes away that I never would have found otherwise, and when I mentioned I was trying to figure out the metro system, the concierge didn’t just hand me a map – he walked me through the best routes to avoid rush hour crowds. You know what I appreciated most though? The breakfast setup. It’s got the usual international spread you’d expect, but they also do proper Azerbaijani dishes that don’t feel like watered-down hotel versions. The parking situation is actually pretty decent too – not something you always find in city center locations like this. I’d say the only minor complaint I have is that the gym gets packed around 7 PM when all the business travelers hit it, but honestly, that’s such a small thing. The rooms themselves feel spacious without being cavernous, and there’s enough USB ports and outlets that you’re not playing musical chairs with your devices. If you’re the type who cares about thread count and all that – well, they’ve got you covered there too. It’s the kind of place where you can tell someone actually thought about what travelers need, not just what looks good in photos.
