I mean, Şəfayət Mehdiyev isn’t exactly where tourists usually end up, but that’s honestly part of its charm – you get this authentic slice of Baku life that most visitors never see.

The building itself has that solid Soviet-era feel (not in a bad way), but inside they’ve done something really nice with the space. The rooms are clean and comfortable without trying too hard – think quality basics done right rather than flashy renovations. What I loved was how quiet it gets at night, which you definitely don’t get in the Old City where everyone else stays. The staff actually remembers your name after a day or two, and they’re genuinely helpful with directions rather than just pointing vaguely toward Flame Towers like some places do. Check-in was smooth, no weird deposit demands or bureaucratic nonsense.

Here’s the thing though – location-wise, you’re not walking to Icherisheher from here, but the metro connections are actually pretty good once you figure them out. There’s this little bakery about two blocks down that locals hit up for morning bread, and honestly, watching the neighborhood wake up from your window is worth the extra commute time. The 8.7 rating makes total sense to me because it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense. It’s the kind of place where you sleep well, the shower has decent pressure, and you’re not constantly worried about hidden fees or weird house rules. Plus – and this might sound random – but the internet actually works properly, which isn’t always a given in Baku’s residential areas. If you’re looking for that authentic “living in the city” vibe rather than the tourist bubble experience, and you don’t mind a short metro ride to get to the main sights, this place hits that sweet spot between comfort and character.

  The people were excellent. I had an accident during my stay. All the staff in the hotel helped me to recover and get treated by the paramedics. Will highly recommend them.

  The owner Ayanur and her son are very kind. I reached early and had to rush to the conference. They made a room available for me to change. Son helped me with my bags to the 2nd floor. One day I was not well and Ayanur very kindly checked on me asking if I needed any help. She gave me lunch beyond meal hours and did not charge. I give full points for kindness and compassion. The breakfast plate is healthy with cheese and salad along with eggs, and one main dish. Location is central and just 5 mins walk from the bus stop. .
  
  What could be improved: The washroom had a distinct smell which can be managed.
  The place is neat but only the wash room smell is bothersome.

  Nice little hotel, family business. I loved being here. Friendly and helpful staff. Lots of shops and restaurants in the area.
  Public transport to the city center is very good, the bus stop is nearby. There is a nice park next to the hotel. I recommend it from the bottom of my heart.

  the host are very nice people. Very accommodating and pleasant. My room was bigger than expected with a balcony. I feel like i am just at home.
