Nizami Street 100 Overview
You know what struck me first about Nizami Street 100? It’s right there in the name – you literally cannot get more central in Baku than this. I mean, Nizami Street is basically the Champs-Élysées of Azerbaijan, and this little 3-star sits smack in the middle of all the action. When I walked out the front door, I was maybe two minutes from the Maiden Tower and could practically hear the evening buzz from the Old City.
Honestly, the hotel itself is pretty straightforward – no frills, but that’s actually refreshing after staying in some of those over-the-top places that try too hard. The rooms are clean and functional, though I’ll be straight with you, the soundproofing isn’t amazing. Nizami Street gets lively at night (which is part of its charm), but if you’re a light sleeper, maybe pack some earplugs. The staff behind the front desk genuinely seemed to know their stuff about the city – not just the touristy recommendations, but actual insider tips about where to grab the best plov at 2 AM or which marshrutka routes to avoid during rush hour.
What really sold me on this place was the location’s practicality. You’re walking distance from literally everything that matters – the Flame Towers are right there looming over you, the subway station is a quick stroll, and there are about fifteen different places to grab coffee or tea within a block. Plus, and this might sound random, but the little grocery store next door stays open late, which saved me more than once when I needed water or snacks. The 7.1 rating makes sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but it does exactly what it promises without any nasty surprises. The shower pressure was actually decent (always a gamble in older buildings), and the Wi-Fi worked fine for video calls back home. If you’re the type who spends most of your time exploring rather than lounging in your room, this spot gives you the perfect base camp right in the heart of everything, without the inflated prices you’d pay at those fancy places closer to the Caspian waterfront.
