My room was comfortable enough, though I’ll admit the bathroom was a bit compact (typical for older buildings in this area). But honestly, who spends their time in Baku sitting in their room anyway? The real magic happens when you realize you can walk to Shirvanshah’s Palace in about five minutes, or grab incredible plov from that little place around the corner that locals actually eat at.

What I appreciated most was how the staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood – not just the major tourist spots, but where to find decent coffee early in the morning or which streets to avoid when it’s crowded with tour groups. The 7.5 rating makes sense because it’s not trying to be fancy, but it delivers on the basics really well. You know what surprised me? How quiet it gets at night, even though you’re in such a central location. I was expecting street noise all night, but the building’s positioned in a way that blocks most of it. Check-in was smooth, though they prefer cash for incidentals – just so you know. If you’re looking for a pool or fancy gym, this isn’t your place, but if you want to wake up and feel like you’re actually in Azerbaijan rather than in some generic international hotel chain, the Ivasoffia gets it right. Plus, you’ll save money that you can spend on exploring the Flame Towers or taking that day trip to Gobustan that everyone talks about.
