You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Garden Inn by NHG when I first walked up to it on Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev Street – I mean, it’s a 3-star place in Sabayil, so I figured it’d be pretty standard. But honestly, this little spot surprised me in the best way possible. The building itself has this understated charm that fits right into the neighborhood, and when you’re standing outside, you can actually hear the buzz from Nizami Street just a few blocks away without feeling like you’re in the thick of tourist chaos.

The thing that really got me was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about getting things right. Check-in was smooth (no weird paperwork delays like some places here), and they actually knew the area well enough to give proper directions – not just “walk that way and you’ll find it.” The rooms are clean and comfortable, nothing fancy but everything works as it should. The beds are actually decent, which I can’t say about every mid-range hotel I’ve stayed at in Baku. What I really appreciated was the quietness at night – Taghiyev Street isn’t one of those main drags that stays noisy until 2 AM, so you can actually get some sleep. The WiFi held up pretty well too, which matters when you’re trying to figure out your next day’s plans or upload photos without wanting to throw your phone across the room.

Here’s the thing that makes this place work so well – it’s positioned perfectly for exploring without being overrun with tour groups. You’re close enough to walk to the Old City (about 15 minutes if you don’t mind a little stroll), and the Flame Towers area is totally manageable on foot too. But you’re also in a more residential part of Sabayil where you can duck into actual neighborhood spots for coffee or grab supplies without paying tourist prices. I found this little bakery just two streets over that locals line up at in the morning – that’s the kind of discovery you make when you’re not staying right in the center of everything. The 9.1 rating makes complete sense once you’ve been there; it’s one of those places that doesn’t try to be something it’s not, but executes everything really well. For the price point and location, Garden Inn delivers exactly what you need without any pretense or unnecessary complications.
