Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first booked Apartment’s by Passage Hotel on Nizami Street – the name threw me off a bit, to be honest. But you know what? Sometimes the places with quirky names turn out to be hidden gems, and this is definitely one of them.

The location is actually brilliant if you want to be in the thick of things without dealing with total chaos. Nizami Street is basically Baku’s main pedestrian zone – think shopping, cafes, and that constant buzz of city life – but the hotel sits just off the main drag, so you get all the energy during the day and can actually sleep at night. I mean, you’ll still hear some street noise (it’s Baku, after all), but nothing that kept me awake. The walk to the Old City takes maybe fifteen minutes if you’re strolling, and there’s this great little bakery around the corner that locals hit up for fresh bread in the mornings. Pro tip: the smell of that bread will wake you up better than any alarm clock.

What really surprised me was how spacious the apartments are – and I say apartments because that’s genuinely what they feel like, not just hotel rooms with a kitchenette thrown in. The one I stayed in had this oddly cozy living area with windows that actually opened (you’d be amazed how rare that is in some places), and the kitchen was functional enough that I could make proper coffee, not just instant stuff. The décor is sort of modern-meets-traditional Azerbaijani, which sounds cheesy but actually works pretty well. They’ve got these beautiful carpet details that feel authentic without being over the top.

Check-in was smooth – the staff speak solid English, which isn’t always a given in this part of Baku, and they were genuinely helpful about restaurant recommendations. One guy even drew me a little map showing the best route to avoid construction on one of the side streets. Small thing, but it mattered. The building itself has this interesting mix of old Baku architecture with clearly renovated interiors, so you get character without worrying about dodgy plumbing (always a concern of mine, honestly).

If I’m being completely honest, the Wi-Fi was a bit spotty on the upper floors – not terrible, but if you’re planning to work from your room, maybe mention that when booking and see if they can sort you out on a lower floor. Also, parking can be tricky if you’ve got a rental car, but there’s a small lot about two blocks away that’s not too expensive by Baku standards.

The whole experience just felt… comfortable, you know? Like staying in a friend’s well-appointed apartment rather than a generic hotel. You’re close enough to walk to most of the tourist spots, but you’re also in a real neighborhood where people actually live and work. That 9-rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it absolutely nails what it is trying to be.

  Мы в восторге от нашего пребывания в этом отеле! В нем все продумано до мелочей. Чистота, комфорт и внимание к гостям на высшем уровне. Персонал очень заботливый и готов помочь в любом вопросе. Особенно порадовало наличие небольшой уютной террасы, где приятно провести вечер за чашкой чая. Расположение отеля также отличное — отдохнули в тишине, но все важные места были рядом.
