VIVA Apartment Overview

You know what caught me off guard about VIVA Apartment? I mean, sure, it’s technically a 3-star place, but honestly – the location alone makes it punch way above its weight class. Right there on Nizami Street, which is basically Baku’s main pedestrian drag, you’re literally in the thick of everything that matters in the old city.

I stayed here last spring, and the first thing that hit me was how the morning sounds drift up from the street – not in an annoying way, but more like this gentle hum of the city waking up. You’ve got the Maiden Tower just a few minutes’ walk away, and I actually loved being able to grab coffee from one of those tiny local spots downstairs before the tourist crowds showed up around 10 AM. The apartment itself is pretty straightforward – clean, functional, with that slightly Soviet-era building charm that’s everywhere in this part of Baku. The elevator’s a bit temperamental (I mean, what do you expect?), but the staff actually remembered my name by day two, which was a nice touch.

What really makes this place work is that you’re staying where Bakuvians actually live and work, not in some sterile hotel district. I’d walk out in the evening and there’d be families strolling, street musicians setting up near the fountain – it felt authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find. The rooms are apartment-style, so you’ve got a little kitchenette if you want to pick up some fresh bread and cheese from the market on Azneft Square (maybe a 10-minute walk). Parking can be tricky – well, parking anywhere in Old City is tricky – but there’s a small lot nearby if you’re driving. Honestly though, once you’re here, you won’t need a car much. The Flame Towers light up the skyline right behind you, the Caspian Boulevard is walkable when you want that sea breeze, and the metro station at Icherisheher is close enough that getting to the newer parts of Baku is no hassle. It’s not luxury, but it’s got character and the kind of location that makes you feel like you’re actually experiencing Baku rather than just visiting it. Plus, the value is pretty solid – I’ve paid more for worse locations in plenty of other cities.
