You know what really caught me off guard about the Smith Hotel? I wasn’t expecting much from the outside – it’s tucked away on Koroglu Rahimov Street, which honestly looks like any other residential street in that part of Baku. But once you step inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually cares about the details here. The lobby has this warm, lived-in feeling that manages to be polished without being sterile, if that makes sense.

I mean, it’s a solid 4-star place, but what I really appreciated was how they’ve nailed the basics that a lot of fancier hotels somehow mess up. The rooms are genuinely quiet – and if you’ve spent any time in Baku, you know how rare that can be with all the construction noise and traffic. The beds are actually comfortable (not just expensive-looking), and the WiFi works properly throughout the building, which I learned the hard way matters more than marble bathrooms when you’re trying to get work done. The staff seems to know the neighborhood really well too – they pointed me toward this little bakery about three blocks away that I never would’ve found otherwise, and gave me realistic walking times to places instead of just saying “it’s close.”

What really sells me on this place is that it feels like they understand what travelers actually need. The 8.5 rating makes perfect sense because it’s not trying to be something it’s not – it’s just consistently good at being a comfortable, reliable place to stay in a city that can be pretty overwhelming if you don’t know your way around. The location works well if you want to be in a quieter area but still have easy access to the Old City and Flame Towers (though you’ll want to grab a taxi for those trips). Parking was surprisingly manageable, which anyone who’s driven in Baku will appreciate. I’d definitely stay here again, especially since the price point feels honest for what you’re getting – no hidden fees or unpleasant surprises at checkout.
