Sunday Hotel Baku Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Sunday Hotel Baku, you immediately get that feeling of stepping into something thoughtfully designed. The lobby has this modern, clean aesthetic that doesn’t try too hard — honestly, it’s refreshing after seeing so many hotels that go overboard with the glitz. The staff greeted me with genuine warmth, and I could tell right away this wasn’t going to be one of those places where you feel like just another booking number.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about the Sabayil district — you’re right in the heart of Baku without feeling overwhelmed by tourist crowds. The hotel sits on Ilyas Efendiyev street, which means you can actually walk to the Old City (Icherisheher) in about fifteen minutes if you’re up for it. The Flame Towers are visible from certain spots around the hotel, and you know what? That never gets old. There’s also this great little bakery just two blocks away that locals frequent — the kind of place you stumble upon and feel like you’ve discovered something special.
The Room Experience
My room was on the sixth floor, and while it wasn’t huge, everything felt purposeful and well-thought-out. The bed was genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathroom had good water pressure — small things that matter when you’re actually staying somewhere. The air conditioning worked perfectly, which you’ll appreciate during Baku’s warmer months. I particularly liked the work desk setup; it’s clear they understand that many guests need to get things done while traveling. The furnishings are modern and durable, designed to withstand regular use without sacrificing style.
Dining & Daily Rhythms
The restaurant serves both local and international dishes, and I was pleasantly surprised by their take on traditional Azerbaijani breakfast. The plov was actually quite good — not tourist-version good, but genuinely tasty. Service can be a bit slow during peak hours, but the staff is attentive once they get to you. There’s also a small café area where you can grab coffee throughout the day, which became my go-to spot for planning the next day’s adventures. The menu changes seasonally, reflecting local ingredients and culinary traditions.
Why Guests Love It
This four-star hotel gets the balance right between comfort and authenticity. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it delivers on the fundamentals that actually matter. The location really is excellent — recent guests consistently mention this, and I can see why. You’re close enough to walk to major attractions, but far enough from the main tourist strips to feel like you’re experiencing the real Baku. Couples seem to particularly enjoy the atmosphere here, and after spending a few days, I understand the appeal. It’s intimate without being stuffy, modern without losing character.
