Smith Hotel Baku Overview
You know what struck me first about Smith Hotel Baku? The location on Koroğlu Rahim Street is actually perfect if you want to feel like you’re staying in a real neighborhood rather than some sterile tourist bubble. I mean, you’re right in the heart of things but not drowning in crowds – there’s this great little tea house literally around the corner that barely any visitors know about, and honestly, the morning sounds of the city waking up are kind of charming (though if you’re a light sleeper, maybe pack earplugs).
The hotel itself has this solid, unpretentious vibe that I really appreciated. It’s a proper 4-star place, don’t get me wrong – the lobby’s got that polished marble thing going on and the staff actually remembers your name after day one – but it doesn’t try too hard to impress you with flashy nonsense. The rooms are genuinely comfortable (I stayed on the fifth floor and the views toward the old city are pretty spectacular), and here’s something that matters: the Wi-Fi actually works everywhere, the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing, and the shower pressure is fantastic. Small things, but you know how these details can make or break a trip. Check-in was smooth too, though I’d recommend arriving after 2 PM because they seem to still be turning over rooms before then.
What really won me over, though, is how the place sits in the city. You can walk to the Flame Towers in about fifteen minutes if you don’t mind a bit of uphill action, and the metro station is close enough that you’ll never stress about getting around. But honestly, some of my best discoveries happened just wandering the streets right around the hotel – there’s this incredible bakery two blocks down that opens at 6 AM (perfect for jet lag), and the little park across the way is where locals actually hang out in the evenings. The neighborhood feels safe even late at night, which isn’t always a given when you’re exploring a new city. I actually ended up extending my stay an extra night because – well, partly because I was enjoying the area, but also because the front desk made it ridiculously easy to change my booking. That 8.6 rating makes total sense to me; it’s the kind of place that does everything well without any major surprises, good or bad.

A very centrally located heritage kind of a hotel in Baku. The metro station is at a walkable distance and even the cabs to all popular places is easily available at very cheap prices.
The best thing about the hotel is the staff. The night manager, Qadir is very helpful and will suggest some great places to see Baku nightlife. Saed and Niaas (i am not sure of the spelling) are also very very kind and helpful. Iqbal, Jaffar, the whole staff are helpful and kind and very friendly and will suggest you everything you can do around the city. I would recommend this place to everyone looking to visit Baku.
