SAHIL Hostel & Hotel Overview
You know what really surprised me about SAHIL Hostel & Hotel? The fact that it’s tucked away on the 4th floor of a building on Zarifa Aliyeva street – honestly, I almost walked right past it the first time. But once you find that elevator (and yes, there is one, thank god), you’re stepping into this surprisingly cozy spot that feels way more intimate than your typical Baku accommodation.
The location is actually pretty brilliant if you know the city at all. Sabayil district puts you right in the heart of things without the tourist circus that happens closer to the Old City walls. I mean, you’re literally a ten-minute walk from the Caspian Sea promenade, and there’s this little bakery downstairs that locals hit up for fresh bread around 7 AM – the smell drifts up and honestly makes for a better wake-up call than any alarm clock. The street itself is quiet enough that you won’t get the usual Baku traffic noise, but you’re still close enough to catch a taxi or metro without any drama.
What I really appreciate about this place is how it strikes that balance between hostel vibes and hotel comfort. The rooms are clean – not Instagram-perfect, but genuinely lived-in comfortable – and the staff actually seems to care about helping you figure out the city rather than just checking you in and disappearing. The 7.6 rating makes total sense to me; it’s not trying to be the Four Seasons, but it delivers on what matters. The WiFi works (crucial for staying connected), the beds are decent, and there’s enough common space to meet other travelers if that’s your thing, or hide away with a book if it’s not. I stayed there during one of those shoulder season periods in spring, and it had this perfect mix of international backpackers and local business travelers that made for interesting conversations over morning tea. The only thing I’d warn you about is that being on the 4th floor means you’re committed once you’re up there – it’s not like you can just pop down to the lobby every five minutes – but honestly, that kind of forced coziness grows on you.

Close to the old town, the hostel is easy to find with a big signage on the street. There is a working elevator to take up you to the floors.
The place is well run with a 24/7 desk and staff speaks good English and all very friendly. Communication is good; i was notified in advance card machines may not be working, so i can prepare or consider alternatives. But eventually the machines is back online when i checked in.
