Royal Mansion Hotel Overview

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to the Royal Mansion Hotel on Oqtay Kərimov street – honestly, the name made it sound a bit pretentious. But this place actually surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked into this quieter stretch of Baku that feels more residential than touristy, which I ended up loving because you get a real sense of how locals live. The building itself has this sort of understated elegance – not flashy like some of the newer hotels downtown, but solid and well-maintained in a way that makes you feel like they actually care about the details.

The location is pretty brilliant, actually. You’re close enough to walk to the old city (maybe 15 minutes if you don’t mind the stroll), but far enough away that you’re not dealing with crowds of tour groups every time you step outside. There’s this little bakery around the corner that does incredible qutab in the mornings – I mean, the hotel breakfast is decent, but honestly, I found myself sneaking out for that bakery more often than not. The staff at Royal Mansion seemed genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions. When I couldn’t figure out the best way to get to the Flame Towers for sunset photos, the guy at the front desk actually drew me a little map and suggested the perfect timing. That’s the kind of thing you remember, you know?

What really won me over was how quiet the rooms stay despite being in the city. I’m usually a light sleeper and city noise drives me crazy, but something about the way this place is positioned – maybe it’s the courtyard design or just good insulation – kept things peaceful even during busy evening hours. The rooms themselves feel properly thought out rather than just decorated. Good lighting for actually reading (thank god), enough outlets in useful spots, and a bathroom that doesn’t make you feel like you’re playing Tetris every time you turn around. I stayed for four nights and never had any of those little annoyances that usually pile up – the Wi-Fi worked consistently, housekeeping didn’t wake me up at dawn, and the air conditioning actually made sense. It’s those mundane things that separate a good stay from a frustrating one, honestly. With that 8.8 rating, I get the sense other travelers have noticed the same attention to getting the basics right. If you’re looking for somewhere in Baku that feels both comfortable and authentically local without sacrificing quality, this place hits that sweet spot perfectly.

Reviews of Royal Mansion Hotel

  • Overall Good experience – Sn from Qatar – 15 July 2025 (8/10)

The staff was very kind and helpful and the room size was wonderful and the view from the balcony was beautiful. As well as the breakfast, it was healthy and tasty.

What could be improved: We were surprised to find that the hotel only provided two small water bottles per day for a family of five. Any additional water had to be paid for, which felt quite unusual and inconvenient, especially in warm weather. This meant we had to go out and find a market just to buy basic drinking water — something we’ve never experienced at similar hotels before. A more generous water policy would definitely improve guest comfort.

Also, the hotel does not offer lunch or dinner—only breakfast is served, and that too in the room. It would have been more comfortable if basic dining options were available on-site.

  • Good experience, value for money, good staff – Hamza from Pakistan – 4 May 2025 (10/10)

Our stay at Royal Mansion Hotel was quite a comfortable one, with some pros and some cons, and there were a couple of instances which really helped elevate the whole experience.

    – We had an early morning start for a day tour, and we ended up having an issue with the room door lock which took around an hour to fix, leaving us in danger of missing our tour. In this situation, one of the (co-?) hotel managers ended up driving us himself to an interim location which worked for our touring company, helping us avoid the whole taxi hassle. This would've taken him an hour or so, but he did it just to make up for the lock issue, without expecting anything in return.
    – My wife wasn't feeling too well on the third day of our stay, and I needed to get some medicine for her ASAP. On this occasion, the other (co-?) hotel manager drove me to the pharmacy himself, helping me purchase the medicine and then even using the hotel's own currency to help me exchange some dollars for local currency, despite this coming at some cost to them.

    On top of that,
    – The room was extremely spacious, and overall it felt great value for money in comparison to other options that we were considering.
    – The furniture was quite high quality, we were provided a separate table, two sofas, a mini-fridge, a safe, 2 large cabinets, 1 full-length mirror, and 1 dresser with a mirror.
    – The staff overall was quite helpful and tried their best to service our needs. There were 3 front-desk staff rotating duties who were all polite and helpful. Esmira among the cleaning staff was especially courteous and friendly, and our room was always spotless after our day's excursions.
    – The breakfast had a decent variety and the food was quite tasty.
    – The hotel was at a short walking distance (10 or so minutes) to eating places, a bus stop, and a beautiful park. It was away from a lot of the rush near the old city/Nizami street.
    – We had no trouble ordering Bolt taxis within minutes to this location.

What could be improved: – The bathroom/toiletries experience left much to be desired. The disposable toothbrush/toothpaste (replaced by the cleaning staff daily) were very cheap and not comfortable to use, and the water pressure was okay/not that great. Twice, our water stopped for half an hour without any prior notice, with the hotel staff claiming it was an issue in the area, and unrelated to their hotel.
    – Some of the drawers had stains on the inside.
    – One of the front desk staff did not converse in English as well as the others, making it hard to communicate at times , over the phone especially.
    – There was no internal temperature control provided to us. We were able to get the staff to turn it down a bit on the days it became a bit too warm inside though.
    – As aforementioned, the room lock broke, making us almost miss our tour. On another occasion, it could've been disastrous, even though it ended up working out this time.

However, overall, despite some flaws in our experience, we believe that the pros above help in justifying the 10-star rating that we are opting for. They can definitely improve on some of the flaws to convert it into a truly unmissable stay.
