Mercure Baku City Overview

You know what struck me first about the Mercure Baku City? It’s actually got character – and I mean that in the best way possible. Sitting right on Inshaatchilar Avenue in the Yasamal district, this place feels like it gets Baku without trying too hard to be flashy about it. The lobby has this warm, lived-in feeling that immediately tells you the staff actually cares about what they’re doing here. I’ve stayed at plenty of four-star hotels that feel sterile, but honestly, walking into this one felt more like visiting a well-run family business that just happens to be really good at hospitality.

The location is pretty brilliant if you know Baku at all – Yasamal is where actual life happens, not just tourist stuff. You’re close enough to the Old City that you can easily get there, but you’re also in a neighborhood where you’ll see locals going about their day, which I always prefer. The rooms are solid without being fussy – good beds (and I’m picky about mattresses), decent-sized bathrooms, and windows that actually open, which is surprisingly rare these days. The air conditioning works properly too, which you’ll definitely appreciate during summer months when Baku can get pretty intense. I noticed the soundproofing is better than expected; even facing the avenue, traffic noise wasn’t really an issue once the windows were closed.

What really sells this place for me is the small stuff that shows they pay attention. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building – I mean really works, not just technically connects. Check-in was smooth without being rushed, and the front desk folks seem to genuinely know the city well enough to give you real recommendations, not just the obvious tourist spots. The breakfast spread is honestly better than it needs to be for a hotel at this level, and they keep it stocked properly even later in the morning when some places start looking picked over. There’s also this relaxed vibe in the common areas that makes you want to linger with coffee rather than just rushing out to start your day. The 8.3 rating makes sense to me – it’s the kind of place that doesn’t have any major flaws and gets enough things right that you’d definitely consider staying again. It’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in Baku, but it’s nailing what it is trying to be: a comfortable, well-run place where you can actually relax and use as a proper base for exploring the city.

  • clean, good – Arda from Turkey – 5 May 2025 (9/10)

    clean, wide room.

What could be improved: long time to check-in, not working tv's in the room.

  • Excellent experience & great value for money. Would definitely recommend. – Tehreem from United Arab Emirates – 22 April 2025 (8/10)

Tastefully done interior with lots to see for those who appreciate art. Clean, well sized rooms. Breakfast was great with a variety of options. The best part of my stay however was the staff. They’re incredibly polite, and go all the way to help you. There wasn’t one time when I called the reception for something and wasn’t accommodated. Special mention for Raul who was truly the sweetest, helped us check out and didn’t let us lift a bag even when we insisted!

What could be improved: The housekeeping can be improved. The lady didn’t change bedding through the entirety of our stay despite being asked to, didn’t refill amenities on her own, among other things. There was a language barrier too. It would be better if there’s a team or 2-3 people coming in to clean instead of just one person so they can be more effective, and at least one of them or a floor supervisor should speak English.

  • Everything was great, only problem was the indoor pool is way too small – Simuzar from Azerbaijan – 16 March 2025 (8/10)

It is new and clean, the staff is awesome, breakfast is quite good and many varieties

What could be improved: The indoor pool is extremely small

  • Superb – Anna from Israel – 30 December 2024 (9/10)

This is a great hotel to stay at when visiting Baku. The location is close to the metro. The food is nice. There is a spa with a sauna and a hammam. But the best part is the staff. Starting from Karim at the reception, the lovely Fatima at the spa the manager Yashar and every person working in the hotel, each and every one of them did everything to make our stay as pleasant as possible. When we encountered a problem, Yashar was very attentive, professional, and kind. I felt that we were treated like v.i.p guests even if we had the simplest room in the hotel. We had an amazing stay and can't wait to visit again.

What could be improved: The view in the room was not so great, but we don't stay in the room that much when we are on holiday, so we didn't care. I'm sure that you write to the hotel in advance and let them know that the view is important to you they will do their best to accommodate that request.

  • Friendly staff and good hotel – Ali from Saudi Arabia – 30 June 2024 (9/10)

    Size of the rooms

  • Superb – Jehad from United Arab Emirates – 26 October 2023 (9/10)
