HelloBaku Apartment in Old City Overview

You know what really caught me off guard about HelloBaku? The moment you step inside this Old City apartment, you completely forget you’re in the middle of one of Baku’s busiest tourist areas. I mean, Mirza Shafi Vazeh street can get pretty hectic during the day – especially when the tour groups start rolling through around 10 AM – but once you’re up on that second floor, it’s surprisingly peaceful.

The apartment itself feels like someone’s actual home, which honestly makes such a difference after staying in cookie-cutter hotel rooms. The kitchen is properly equipped (not just for show), and I actually ended up cooking a few meals using stuff I picked up from the little market just around the corner on Kichik Gala. The living area has these great windows that let in tons of natural light, and you can catch glimpses of the old stone walls that make this neighborhood so special. What I really appreciated was the attention to details – good water pressure in the shower, reliable WiFi, and they’ve got proper blackout curtains if you’re dealing with jet lag. The beds are comfortable too, though the place can feel a bit snug if you’ve got a lot of luggage.

Location-wise, you’re literally walking distance from everything that matters in Icherisheher. The Maiden Tower is maybe three minutes away, and you can easily wander over to the Shirvanshah Palace or just get lost in those narrow cobblestone streets (which, let’s be honest, is half the fun). I loved being able to duck back to the apartment for a quick break during long sightseeing days – something you can’t really do when you’re staying out in the modern part of the city. The area does get pretty quiet after dark, which some people love and others might find a bit too sleepy. Parking can be tricky if you’ve rented a car, but most people exploring the Old City are doing it on foot anyway. For the price point and that 8.5 rating, it delivers exactly what you’d expect – a genuine local experience without sacrificing the comforts you need as a traveler.

Reviews of HelloBaku Apartment in Old City

  • Kind and welcoming Hosts with great Humanity – Amali from United Arab Emirates – 3 June 2025 (10/10)

The accommodation is really good and more cozy and comfortable at the same time. We were not having much time to spend some time in the accommodation because of our tight schedules. But overall, even within a few hours at the apartment, it was more comfortable.

The most important thing is the owners. They were doing an impeccable job during our stay. We couldn't exchange money from the city as it was almost past 6pm and once he knew, he just came with us and showed us the way and until we came back to the accommodation, he was showing this and that (attractions nearby) and explained very well. He did an amazing job and is always available for any kind of help we want and we asked each and every detail from him as this is our first time in Azerbaijan. Overall I am fully satisfied and if I can give 1000 out of 100 I would definitely do.

Moreover, He was so cool to gather my huge luggage from the city even by telling me this 'I will take care. We are men". It took my heart. He was doing more than what he needed to do. Such a humble human being. In here, I am pointing out as "He", the owner's brother. The owner itself was taking care of us being more responsive.

    Highly recommended place

What could be improved: As old Baku is always busy, if you have your own vehicle, it's not easy to manage a vehicle close by and take near to your accommodation, this is the only problem we had. Otherwise accommodation is top notch.

  • sum= Appartment is more than perfect. Don't waste your money on 5 star hotels. this one feels better – Ali from Pakistan – 26 October 2024 (10/10)

First of All! Nazim Received me. He is one Fine young man with such a great personality. Smiley Face, Happy welcome and a good attitude. He's among few people in Baku, who speaks English. But, that's not it. The room, Neighborhood and the place itself is a treat. It's in the heart of Nizami Street. And just by walking a few minutes. Which you won't even feel, Because the views and Ambiance of the place is the best. You can get everything.

What could be improved: There's no single thing that i dislike about it.

  • Recommended place for value seeking traveller at the heart of old city – Xavier from Singapore – 19 October 2024 (8/10)

Hosts are very helpful, friendly and responsive.
Apartment could not be in a better location.
It is clean though bathroom could be improved a bit.
It is a very good value.
You can cook, has sofa, etc…

What could be improved: Mattress is not good enough, even for budget property.
The thing that bothers me about this property is that with a little bit more work, caring about the details and changing the mattress, one could easily make it a truly outstanding place.
A bit concerned about electrical wiring next to the shower…. I supposed it has all regulations met though.

Largely because of the amount paid (23EUR per 1 person on Oct 2024), this gets a RECOMMENDED mark from me, targeting value seeking customer.

  • Great location .. Amazing Host – Saad from United Arab Emirates – 21 September 2024 (8/10)

Excellent location right in the center of Old Town Baku.. Host was also very friendly and always available for our inquiries or assistance. Good for a short stay only. We are giving rating 8 for host and location

What could be improved: Mattress needs to be changed on an urgent basis. Major work is required in the Bathroom with proper cleaning. You are amazing people with great apartment location, need to work on these points.

  • Exceptional – Max from France – 26 July 2024 (10/10)

It perfectly suited my needs and location cannot be better.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Very good – Mary from United Arab Emirates – 24 July 2024 (8/10)

The property is located at the Old City which makes it really convenient for travellers.

What could be improved: No toiletries provided so make sure to bring your own. No drinking water provided so purchase your own.

  • A good blace to stay on our first night in Azerbaijan. – Merlin41 from United Kingdom – 13 September 2023 (9/10)

We enjoyed our stay, the location was excellent.

What could be improved: We had trouble locating the place, due to lack of signage

  • Passable – Ahmed from Pakistan – 7 September 2023 (5/10)

The location is great as it is in the old city and price was good comparing to the locations and facilities
The host was communicative and helpful until the unfortunate misunderstanding which disturbed me.

What could be improved: You always learn new lessons during traveling and despite being Jenuis 3 and traveling with booking.Com for more than 10 years I learned a very important lesson in this stay.
There is also something for the his to learn from.

This was our first stay in Azerbijan coming from the airport and the only stay in two weeks where we had a bad experience.

When we took the room, while using washroom later in the night. My wife told me that there was a piece of metal lying on the floor. I asked her to leave on the corner as I couldn’t relate it to the washroom fixtures. We were too tied that we slept without using the shower that night. Next day, I extended our stay in the room.

We came late in the night and waited to take shower, my wife then told me issue with the mixer. The water was extremely slow and it was moving from extremely hot to extremely cold. She insisted on me to call the host but it was too late and I didn’t want to disturb this late. I literally collected the water in a bottle to mix and avoid burn and with great struggle we done with the bath.

My wife remained annoyed the next day due to this struggle but what was worse that the host blamed us for breaking the shower/mixer and only then I realized that the broken piece that I saw in the start could be broken by the guests before us and not noticed by the host.

I would be honest that the host was not a bad person. He was cooperative during the stay but if he had inspected the studio before handing over to us, or if I was not too shy and considerate, I could have avoid my the anger of my wife and the false blame by the host. Still I have to be just and that’s why I am not giving poor rating to the place despite the struggle that we had and the blame that we got

After this experience, where ever we went i was inspecting the room and more carefully the washroom and reported any issue I noted with taking pictures, to avoid any blame. But we didn’t face any issue during our stay.

  • Bad – Alexander from Italy – 20 August 2023 (1/10)

What could be improved: The reservation was deleted 1 hour before checkin. Very unserious landlord

  • Goood choice 👌 – Rami from United Arab Emirates – 20 July 2023 (8/10)

The best thing is the location of the appartment, in the center of the old city of baku , near to juma mosque and its totally walking distance from the iconic Maiden tower

Also, the owner is such a good person, very cooperative in case of any neeed

    I recommend it

What could be improved: Everything is good but, the mattress is not clean and should be changed

No good curtains to block the sunlight from the windows, its a bit bothering in the morning
