Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the East Legend Hotel on Khanlar Street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes you get pleasantly surprised, and this was definitely one of those times.

The thing about staying in Sabayil is that you’re right in the heart of old Baku, which means you’re walking distance from the Maiden Tower and all those winding cobblestone streets that actually feel ancient (not the fake ancient you get in some tourist areas). The hotel sits on a pretty quiet stretch of Khanlar Street – I mean, you’ll still hear some traffic during the day, but it’s nothing like the main drag on Nizami Street. What really struck me was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the neighborhood. The guy at reception didn’t just hand me a tourist map; he actually marked out this little tea house around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise, and honestly, it became my morning ritual.

The rooms themselves are… well, they’re solid. Nothing fancy, but everything works the way it should, which is more than I can say for some places I’ve stayed. The beds are actually comfortable – not too soft, not too firm – and the Wi-Fi is surprisingly reliable. I was there during what locals call the “windy season” in late fall, and the windows did a decent job keeping out the Caspian Sea breeze. One thing that caught me off guard was how quiet the place gets at night. You’d think being in the city center would mean constant noise, but the way the building’s positioned, you really don’t get much street sound after 10 PM. The bathroom’s small but functional, though I’d recommend bringing your own shampoo because theirs is pretty basic. What I really appreciated was the little balcony in my room – nothing spectacular, but perfect for morning coffee while watching the neighborhood wake up. You can actually see a slice of the Flame Towers from certain rooms, which gives you that “yeah, I’m really in Baku” moment. For the price point, and especially with that 8.9 rating making sense once you’re there, it’s the kind of place that doesn’t try to be something it’s not. It’s just a comfortable, well-run hotel where you can actually get some sleep and the people working there seem to care about what they’re doing.

  This is a friendly place, conveniently located close to the Old Town. We really liked the swimming pool, and it's great that free parking places are available right outside. The staff was very helpful. Generally we appreciated the peaceful atmosphere of this place.

  East Legend is a small green oasis in the middle of Baku. There is an outdoor pool and a nice area to chill in the shade. Staff was very nice and helped with everything we asked for. You can take a taxi from there for 1,5€ into old town Baku. They even have a sauna 🙂

  The location is 10 minute's away by taxi from the centre. But it's very homey, it gives you peace after a long day of hassle from the busy touristy areas.
