Graaf Hotel Overview
You know what struck me first about the Graaf Hotel? Walking up to this place on Hasanoglu Street, you’d almost miss it if you weren’t looking – it’s tucked into this quiet residential stretch that feels refreshingly removed from the chaos of central Baku. I mean, you’re still close enough to everything that matters, but there’s something really appealing about stepping off a side street into what feels like a well-kept secret.
The lobby hits that sweet spot between elegant and approachable – not so fancy that you feel underdressed after a long travel day, but polished enough that you know they’re taking care of details. Check-in was honestly smoother than I expected, and the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood well when I asked about walking to the Old City (about 15 minutes, by the way, and it’s a pleasant stroll through some of Baku’s more authentic residential areas). The rooms are what you’d hope for from a solid 4-star – clean lines, comfortable beds, and those little touches that show someone’s paying attention. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious, and I appreciated that the shower actually had decent water pressure, which isn’t always a given in this part of the world.
What really won me over, though, was how the place feels once you settle in. It’s got that rare quality of being professional without being stuffy – the kind of hotel where the morning coffee is actually good, where the wifi works reliably in your room, and where you don’t feel like you’re bothering anyone when you ask for an extra towel. The neighborhood comes alive in the evenings with locals heading to dinner, and you’ll hear the distant hum of the city without dealing with the all-night traffic noise that plagues some of the hotels closer to Fountain Square. Honestly, that 8.9 rating makes sense when you experience the whole package – it’s not trying to be the flashiest option in Baku, but it delivers consistently on the things that actually matter when you’re traveling. If you’re the type who appreciates being somewhere that feels authentically part of the city rather than isolated from it, and you want solid comfort without the premium price tag of the international chains, this place gets it right.
