Honestly, when I first saw “Budget One Room Apartment” on Teymur Elçin street, I wasn’t expecting much – the name pretty much screams no-frills, right? But you know what, this little place actually surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked into Sabayil, which means you’re practically in the heart of old Baku without the tourist trap pricing. I mean, you can walk to the Maiden Tower in about fifteen minutes, and there’s this great little bakery just around the corner that locals actually go to (not one of those overpriced spots near the Old City gates).

The apartment itself is way more thoughtful than the basic name suggests. Sure, it’s one room, but whoever set this up actually gets what travelers need – there’s proper counter space in the kitchenette (not just some sad mini-fridge situation), and the bed is surprisingly comfortable. I stayed here during that crazy windy period in March when the Khazar winds were absolutely howling, and the windows held up fine – no rattling that kept me up all night like some places I’ve crashed in the city. The Wi-Fi actually works too, which honestly can’t be taken for granted in some Baku accommodations. Check-in was pretty smooth, though the building entrance is a bit tricky to spot if you’re coming from the metro – look for the blue door, not the main apartment building entrance.

What really sold me on this place was the neighborhood vibe. Teymur Elçin isn’t one of those streets that goes completely dead after 8 PM, but it’s not party-central either. You’ll hear some street noise during the day (it’s Baku, after all), but evenings are actually pretty peaceful. The 28 May metro station is close enough that you don’t need to rely on taxis for everything, and there’s a decent grocery store about two blocks down if you want to use that kitchenette. I actually ended up cooking a few meals there – saved a ton compared to eating out every night, especially since restaurant prices in Sabayil can get pretty steep. The whole setup just felt more like staying in someone’s well-organized apartment rather than a sterile hotel room, which I definitely appreciated after a few days of sightseeing. For what you’re paying and where you’re staying, it’s solid value – especially if you’re the type who wants to experience Baku more like a local than a tourist rushing between overpriced hotel amenities.

  What could be improved: Very dirty. Dirty bathroom with mold. The toilet bowl does not work properly. There's no toilet paper. Teapot and dishes with sediment. Sofa old and uncomfortable. Linen and blankets are very old with no maintenance.

  It had a fantastic view but I had been upgraded so don't really know what the 1 room situation was. Once a few problems were sorted out it was a pretty good experience where I had a fridge and stove to could so overall not bad. It was clean and linen was clean. The owners were very nice and all problems were resolved very quickly with no fuss
  
  What could be improved: Not having sim in my phone caused a bit of an issue with contacting owner which is not his fault as most issues could have been resolved by phone. Firstly just locating the property . Address was ambivalent. Second no wifi code given. Partly my fault as most places will have it written somewhere . Thirdly I left the building and the door shut behind me and I had nothing with me and then I realised I needed a code to get back in. Fortunately the guy at the store had the code. Next morning the electricity went off. Unpaid bill. Owners father came mid morning to collect money and very helpfully restored power. There was no toiletries in the apartment as promised but within 15 minutes of notification they were delivered. So it was a sort of comedy of errors. I think the owners were very nice genuine people and maybe this was an unusual situation. If I had a phone it could all have been resolved quicker.

  Good location, good size apartment in a quiet area. Access to kitchen & laundry with near by markets. Had a nice traditional feel to it. Nice view from the windows.
  
  What could be improved: Quite disappointed as we purposely booked due to having a balcony however upon arrival the doors were taped shut and access was banned. The kitchen was good however there were no utensils and very little pots and pans which made it very difficult to cook.
  Bathroom wasn’t great, very dated and shabby- no toilet flush, had to use the hose however this did not do the job adequately, bathroom was a real let down.

  First of all, the host is a wonderful person! Always available, answered all my questions immediately, warm hearted person. Check in went smooth. Apartment itself basic as advertised, but very cozy and clean. Wifi worked excellent. Don't expect the Ritz, it's a typically Azerbaijan living style, loved that. There's a good working heater, hot water 24/7 and my balcony had a fantastic sea view. No noise from neighbors. Street traffics a bit annoying, but with closed windows ok. Walkable distance to Old City. Felt like home. Thanks for great hospitality.

  Very friendly and hospitable host who works hard day and night to fulfill all the wishes of his guests. A superb location situated in the prestigious area – presidential administration – next to the famous and beautiful Waterfall Garden (Shalale Bagi) with a fabulous view over the seaside promenade (Bulvar) at a walking distance the from historical Old/Inner Town (Icheri Sheher) and at a very close proximity to the Deniz Mall (the Seaside Mall) where you can shop, eat and have fun. A perfect place for a couple or a single who wants to enjoy the city.
