You know, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to the Sapphire Inn on Hasan Abdullayev Street – honestly, the name made it sound like one of those generic chain places. But this little four-star gem actually surprised me in the best way possible. The lobby hits you with this warm, understated elegance that feels more like a well-appointed home than a hotel trying too hard to impress. What really caught my attention was how the staff genuinely seemed to know the neighborhood – when I asked about grabbing coffee nearby, the front desk guy didn’t just point me toward the hotel restaurant but actually sketched out a little map to this fantastic local spot two blocks over.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re staying in real Baku rather than tourist central. You’re right in Sabayil, which means you can walk to the Old City (Icherisheher) in about fifteen minutes, but you’re also close enough to the modern business district that you don’t feel cut off from anything. I mean, the Flame Towers are literally visible from some of the upper floor rooms – and trust me, seeing those lit up at night never gets old. The street itself is pretty quiet, which was a relief after some of the noisier places I’ve stayed in the city center. Parking can be a bit tricky during busy periods (they have limited spots), but the staff will actually help you find street parking that’s safe, which I appreciated.

What sets this place apart – and probably explains that solid 8.2 rating – is how they nail the details that actually matter when you’re traveling. The WiFi works everywhere, not just in the lobby. The shower pressure is fantastic (seriously underrated when you’re dealing with Caspian Sea humidity). And the breakfast spread includes local stuff alongside the usual hotel fare – try the qutab if they have it. The rooms themselves are comfortable without being flashy, though I will say the air conditioning can be a bit loud if you’re a light sleeper. But here’s the thing: the staff genuinely cares about making your stay work. When my original room faced a construction site that started drilling at 7 AM, they moved me without any fuss or extra charges. That kind of flexibility is worth its weight in gold when you’re trying to actually enjoy your trip instead of dealing with hotel drama.

  What could be improved: The only negative point is that I was asking for iron and the table for ironing for two different time and say they will bring it but no one show, the second time I went down by myself and the reception gave me the iron but the table never come to me till the checkout 🫠

  The facility is good, spacious rooms, nice bathroom, super good staff. Vert close to Nizami street.
