Riviera Hotel Overview
You know what struck me first about the Riviera Hotel? It’s actually positioned perfectly on Gurban Abbasov Street – which, if you’re not familiar with Baku, puts you right in the heart of Sabayil where you can practically feel the pulse of the old city mixing with modern Azerbaijan. I mean, you step outside and you’re genuinely walking distance from the Flame Towers (those iconic skyscrapers you see in every Baku photo), but you’re also close enough to the Old City that you can wander over to Icherisheher without dealing with crazy taxi rides through Baku’s honestly unpredictable traffic.
The hotel itself feels like someone took a 4-star property and actually thought about what travelers need. The lobby has this warm, lived-in quality – not trying too hard to be fancy, but comfortable in a way that makes you think “okay, I can relax here.” What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to understand that mix of international guests and local business travelers you get in this part of the city. Check-in was smooth (which isn’t always guaranteed in Baku, let’s be honest), and they had that genuine helpfulness that comes from people who actually know their neighborhood. The rooms are well-maintained without being flashy – good blackout curtains, which you’ll appreciate since Baku summers stay bright pretty late, and the air conditioning actually works properly, something that matters more than you’d think when the Caspian winds aren’t cooperating.
Here’s what makes this place work for me though – it’s got that sweet spot location where you’re in the action but not drowning in it. Sabayil can get pretty buzzy, especially around Fountains Square, but Gurban Abbasov Street has enough of a residential feel that you’re not dealing with non-stop street noise. Plus, honestly, the 8.3 rating makes sense when you stay here because it delivers on the practical stuff without pretending to be something it’s not. You’ve got solid restaurants within a few blocks (the local plov spots are fantastic if you’re feeling adventurous), and if you need to get to Heydar Aliyev Center or the airport, you’re well-positioned for reasonable taxi rides. It’s the kind of place where you check in thinking “this’ll do fine” and end up actually enjoying your base camp for exploring Baku – which, trust me, is exactly what you want in a city that’s got this much to offer.

Reviews of Riviera Hotel
Superb – Vasif from Azerbaijan – 18 July 2025 (9/10)
What could be improved: Overall, everything was great — the hotel was clean and comfortable. However, the bathroom unit was a bit faulty (e.g., the showerhead was loose or there was some leakage). It would be much better if that could be fixed. Other than that, we were satisfied. Thank you!
