Radisson Hotel Baku Overview
Honestly, when you first pull up to the Radisson on Azadlig Avenue, it doesn’t scream “fancy hotel” from the outside – but that’s actually kind of refreshing in a city where some places try way too hard. The location is pretty solid though, I mean, you’re right in Sabayil district which puts you within walking distance of the Old City walls and close enough to the Flame Towers that you can get decent photos without fighting crowds.
What really won me over was the staff’s genuine helpfulness – not that over-the-top fake hospitality you sometimes get at chain hotels. The front desk folks actually know the neighborhood and can tell you which marshrutka to catch or where to find a proper cup of coffee at 7 AM (spoiler: it’s not the lobby café, though their breakfast spread is surprisingly decent). The rooms are clean and functional, nothing groundbreaking but the AC works reliably – which you’ll appreciate during those sweltering Baku summers when the Caspian wind decides to take a break. I stayed on the sixth floor and barely heard any street noise, even with Azadlig Avenue being fairly busy during rush hours.
You know what I really appreciated? The internet actually works consistently, which isn’t always a given in this part of town, and they don’t nickel and dime you for it. The elevator can be a bit slow during peak hours when business travelers are all trying to get to breakfast at once, but honestly that gave me time to plan my day. Location-wise, you’re maybe a 15-minute walk to Icherisheher’s main entrance, and if you’re into the whole oil boom architecture thing, the contrast between the hotel’s understated vibe and those gleaming towers nearby is kind of fascinating. Plus there’s a decent pharmacy right around the corner and a small grocery store that stays open late – those little conveniences matter when you’re jet-lagged and need basics. The 8.5 rating makes sense to me; it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Baku, but it delivers on what matters: comfort, reliability, and staff who seem to actually care whether you find what you’re looking for in their city.
