That slight confusion is part of what makes this place magical. You’re literally staying inside Baku’s UNESCO World Heritage old town, which most tourists just walk through during the day and then head back to their generic hotel towers near Flame Towers.

The apartment itself sits on the first floor – and by first floor, I mean what Americans would call the second floor, so there are stairs involved. No elevator, but it’s just one flight, and the building has this weathered charm that makes you feel like you’re staying in someone’s actual home rather than some sanitized hotel room. What really got me was how quiet it becomes at night. During the day, you’ll hear tour groups chattering in the courtyard below and maybe some construction sounds from ongoing restoration work (they’re always fixing something in the old city, which is good – means they’re preserving it). But after 8 PM or so, it’s this peaceful bubble where you can actually hear the evening call to prayer echoing off the stone walls. The apartment gets these gorgeous late afternoon shadows streaming through the windows, and you know what – the 9.8 rating makes total sense because whoever runs this place actually seems to care about the details. Fresh linens that smell like they were dried outside, not some industrial dryer. Local touches that feel intentional, not like someone just threw together a rental property.

You’re basically a two-minute walk from the Palace of Shirvanshahs – I could literally see people queueing up for it from the window – and maybe five minutes from all those carpet shops and tea houses where locals actually hang out, not just the tourist traps. The Maiden Tower is right there too, obviously, but here’s what the guidebooks don’t tell you: early morning is when you want to explore these streets. Around 7 AM, before the tour buses arrive, you’ll have the cobblestones mostly to yourself except for a few older guys heading to morning prayers and maybe someone sweeping their shop entrance. That’s when you really get why staying inside Icherisheher matters – you’re not just visiting this medieval city, you’re temporarily living in it. Parking is absolutely impossible right outside (the streets are too narrow for cars anyway), but there’s a spot about a ten-minute walk away where you can leave a rental car. Most people just take taxis or the metro to get here, which honestly works better anyway since driving in central Baku can be… well, let’s just say it’s an adventure you might not want.

  When we arrived in Baku, we were very unlucky with the first choice of accommodation – everything was different from the description, so I quickly booked this place. Even though we had to wait quite a bit due to the last minute booking, the apartment was clean and ready for our family, and the host stayed in touch the whole time. In real life it looks exactly like on the photos. The location was exceptional, close to the metro, easy to get around through the Old Town, and walkable distance to Flame towers, Fountain Square and the boulevard. It had everything we could possibly need for a stay with a child, even a panini press 😁 Thank you for saving our holiday in Baku! We had a great stay.

  Good location with easy access to transportation, restaurants, and attractions. Clean and well maintained apartment in a quiet and safe neighborhood. Elchin is a great host, he picked us up from the airport and was available for anything that we needed during our stay. Really like an old friend.
  
  What could be improved: Old city Baku is great but can be challenging for people with mobility issues. Accessibility is a challenge due to up and downs, stairs and narrow streets.

Please book this property if you want to save money on outside food and want to stay at a home outside home.

  The host Elchin is the nicest and most generous host I have ever encountered. Including driving first my partner and then me (two weeks later) to the airport at 2am. Extraordinary service, and a super friendly and lovely person.

  Elchin was the most amazing host and I would definitely choose the apartment again and recommend it to anyone I know. He was very hospitable and I appreciate everything he did for me. He would check in and see if I needed anything which was much appreciated especially as I travelled solo. The apartment reflected the pictures and was very spacious and clean. It is a hidden gem in the beautiful Old Town and in the perfect location for exploring the city.
  
  What could be improved: The windows and walls are a bit thin but I still slept soundly.

  The host was really friendly and allowed us to keep our luggage for a few more hours after check-out. They were always willing to help us. The building is historical and 700 years old but the apartment itself is well repaired and the location is really good and there are some markets and restaurants around. Having AC was really useful in this hot summer😁
