Okay, so I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Novo Sky Hotel on Vladislav Plotnikov street, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s tucked into this sort of residential area in Nasimi district that feels more like where locals actually live, you know? But then you walk through those doors and it’s like… wait, this is actually really nice.

The thing that got me right away was how the staff just seemed to genuinely want to help – not that overly scripted hotel politeness, but like they actually cared if you found what you needed. Check-in was smooth (and I mean really smooth, not just “efficient”), and they knew enough English that I didn’t have to fumble around with my terrible Azerbaijani attempts. The lobby has this modern feel without being cold, if that makes sense. Clean lines but still warm somehow, with these really comfortable seating areas where you’ll actually see guests hanging out rather than just rushing through.

Here’s what I loved – the location is perfect for getting a real feel for Baku without being stuck in the super touristy center. You’re close enough to walk to the main attractions (Flame Towers are maybe 15 minutes on foot), but you’re also right where you can grab incredible local food and see how the city actually works. There’s this little bakery two blocks down that makes the best fresh bread at like 7 AM – the smell drifts right through the neighborhood and honestly became my morning alarm clock. The rooms themselves are well thought out, not just thrown together. Good water pressure in the shower (trust me, this matters), blackout curtains that actually block light, and the beds are legitimately comfortable. I’m picky about mattresses and theirs hit that sweet spot between firm and soft.

What really struck me was the attention to details you don’t always get at four-star places. The WiFi actually works throughout the building – I could video call from the elevator if I wanted to. The housekeeping team keeps everything spotless without being intrusive, and they remember how you like things after a day or two. Breakfast has a good mix of international stuff and local specialties, though honestly, you should try the local places nearby at least once. The hotel’s restaurant is solid for dinner when you don’t feel like exploring, but don’t miss out on the incredible dining scene just outside your door. Parking isn’t an issue if you’re driving, which is more than I can say for a lot of places in this part of the city. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after 10 PM, so if you’re looking to party until dawn, you might want to head toward the city center – but if you want to actually sleep and recharge, this spot is perfect. It’s one of those places that just works, you know?
