The moment you walk in, you get why this place has a 9.8 rating. I mean, that’s almost unheard of, right? The lobby has this understated elegance that feels genuine, not like they’re trying too hard. The staff actually remembers your name after day one (rare these days), and they know the neighborhood inside and out. When I asked about getting to the Old City, the front desk guy didn’t just point me toward a taxi – he told me which marshrutka routes to take and warned me about the construction on Nizami Street that Google Maps doesn’t know about yet. That’s local knowledge you can’t fake.

The rooms themselves are what really sold me, though. Everything feels new and well-maintained, but not in that sterile hotel chain way. The beds are actually comfortable – like, fall-asleep-in-minutes comfortable – and the bathrooms have proper water pressure, which… well, if you’ve traveled in this region, you know that’s not always a given. What I really appreciated were the little touches: blackout curtains that actually block light (perfect since Baku summers stay bright until late), solid Wi-Fi throughout, and air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing. The windows are well-insulated too, so you don’t hear much street noise, even though you’re in a pretty busy part of the city.

Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned without being in the tourist chaos. Yasamal is where actual Bakuvians live and work, so you get a real feel for the city. There’s a fantastic local market about a ten-minute walk away where you can grab fresh bread and those incredible Azerbaijani tomatoes, and you’re close enough to the metro that getting to Fountains Square or the Flame Towers is no big deal. Plus – and this matters if you’re renting a car – parking isn’t the nightmare it is closer to the old town.

I stayed here during both shoulder season and peak summer, and the service stayed consistently excellent. The housekeeping team is thorough without being intrusive, and honestly, I’ve never had such reliably fast room service. They also helped me arrange a day trip to Gobustan that cost way less than the hotel tours you’ll find in fancier districts.

Look, I’m not saying it’s perfect – the elevator is a bit slow, and if you’re expecting a rooftop pool or fancy spa, you’ll be disappointed. But what Nizami VIP does, it does really well. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere special without the pretension or the inflated prices. For a 4-star spot in Baku, it punches way above its weight, and that 9.8 rating? Yeah, it’s earned.
