Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Narimanov City View on Qurban Xəlilov street – the name kind of sounds like every other hotel trying to capitalize on its views, you know? But walking into the lobby, I actually had to do a double-take at how polished everything looked for what I thought would be just another mid-range spot in Yasamal.

The thing about this location is that you’re right in the heart of things without being stuck in the touristy chaos near the Old City. I mean, you can walk to the Flame Towers if you want that classic Baku photo op, but you’re also surrounded by where actual Bakuvians live and work. There’s this great little bakery two blocks down that opens at 6 AM – the smell of fresh bread sort of drifts through the neighborhood, which beats a hotel breakfast sometimes. The rooms themselves are surprisingly spacious, and okay, the “city view” isn’t just marketing fluff. From the upper floors, you actually get this sweeping look across the district that’s especially gorgeous at sunset when the light hits all those Soviet-era buildings mixed with the newer glass towers. The staff clearly takes pride in the place – my check-in was smooth, and when I mentioned I was looking for a good local restaurant (not the overpriced tourist traps), the front desk guy actually pulled out his phone to show me photos of this family-run place three streets over.

What really sold me on this place, though, was the attention to small details that you don’t usually get at a 4-star hotel. The bathroom had actually good water pressure – and anyone who’s traveled around the Caucasus knows that’s not always a given. The Wi-Fi worked consistently (I was working remotely, so this mattered), and there’s adequate parking, which is honestly a minor miracle in this part of Baku where everyone’s fighting for street spots. I stayed during what locals told me was a busy period in late spring, but the hotel never felt chaotic or understaffed. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after 10 PM, so if you’re someone who needs absolute silence to sleep, you’ll be happy. That 9.6 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but everything just works the way it should, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want when you’re exploring a place like Baku that can be overwhelming if you’re not used to it.
