Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to the Midway Hotel on Həzi Aslanov Street – I mean, the name sounds pretty generic, right? But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The building has this understated elegance that fits perfectly in the Nasimi district, and you know what really struck me? How quiet it was despite being right in the heart of things. You’re literally walking distance from Fountains Square and all the good restaurants along Nizami Street, but somehow the hotel manages to feel like a peaceful retreat.

The staff here – and I’m usually pretty critical about this stuff – genuinely seem to care about what they’re doing. Check-in was smooth, no weird upselling attempts, and the guy at the front desk actually gave me useful recommendations instead of just pointing me toward tourist traps. The rooms are what you’d expect from a proper 5-star place, but there are these thoughtful touches that show someone was actually thinking about how real people use hotel rooms. Like, the lighting is warm and adjustable (thank god, because I hate those harsh overhead fluorescents), and the blackout curtains actually work – which matters more than you’d think when you’re dealing with jet lag and Baku’s bright summer mornings.

What really sets this place apart, though, is how it feels authentically connected to the city. The breakfast includes proper Azerbaijani options alongside the international stuff, and I had some of the best tea of my trip right there in their restaurant. The neighborhood itself is fantastic for exploring – you can walk to the Old City in about fifteen minutes, or catch a taxi to the Heydar Aliyev Center without dealing with crazy traffic. Parking was surprisingly hassle-free too, which anyone who’s driven in Baku will appreciate. I stayed here during shoulder season in May, and while I imagine it gets busier during the summer months (especially when the Formula 1 crowd rolls in), the service never felt rushed or impersonal. There’s something to be said for a hotel that maintains that 9.4 rating without feeling stuffy or pretentious – it’s polished but relaxed, professional but warm. If you’re looking for a solid base to explore Baku without the circus atmosphere of some of the flashier hotels, this is your spot.

  Overall, this hotel is truly excellent. The entire place is very clean, and the location is just perfect — it’s very easy to reach every part of the city from here. The bed and the shower were also very comfortable, and I had absolutely no issues during my stay.
  What really stood out to me was the hospitality of the staff. They were incredibly welcoming and helpful. I would especially like to thank Nazım and Zaki — they were outstanding. They provided me with all the information I needed and were always ready to help with anything.
  
  What could be improved: If I had to mention one downside, it would be the noise in the mornings. Some neighboring rooms would gather and talk loudly right outside the hotel room doors, near the hallway/terrace area. Since all the room doors open towards that central corridor, the noise would easily enter the rooms. That was the only small issue in an otherwise perfect stay.

  It’s small, but it feels so warm and welcoming.
  
  The breakfast buffet is incredibly delicious — really, really, really tasty!
  The lady who makes the eggs was always smiling and even tried to speak Arabic with us 😍

  The security level is also very high — I even left my phone and bag in the hallway for a full hour, and when I came back, everything was exactly where I left it 👍🏻
