Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Luxury Residence by Bakuapart on Şamil Əzizbəyov Street – the name sounds a bit pretentious, doesn’t it? But you know what, this place actually delivers on the luxury part without making you feel like you’re staying in some sterile corporate hotel. It’s tucked right in Yasamal district, which I mean, if you know Baku at all, you’ll appreciate how central this is without being stuck in the chaos of the Old City tourist crowds.

The thing that struck me immediately was how they’ve managed to create this residential feel (hence the name, I guess) while still giving you proper hotel service. The lobby has this warm, lived-in elegance – not the marble-and-gold showiness you see everywhere else in Baku, but more like stepping into a well-appointed apartment building where someone with great taste actually lives. Check-in was refreshingly smooth, and the staff spoke excellent English, which honestly can be hit or miss around here. My room faced the street, and while Şamil Əzizbəyov can get a bit busy during rush hour, the windows are solid – I’m a light sleeper and had no issues. The apartment-style setup is what really sets this place apart though. You get a proper kitchen (not just a mini-fridge and kettle), which is perfect if you want to grab some fresh pomegranates and local cheese from the market down the street instead of eating out every meal.

What really won me over was the attention to small details that most hotels completely miss. The shower pressure is fantastic – and trust me, after walking around Baku’s windy Caspian waterfront all day, you want a proper shower. The Wi-Fi actually works consistently (not always a given in this part of the world), and they’ve got these blackout curtains that are a godsend if you’re dealing with jet lag. Location-wise, you’re about a 10-minute walk to Nizami Street for shopping, and it’s easy to catch a taxi to the Flame Towers or wherever else you need to go. Parking can be a bit tricky on the street, but they’ve got arrangements that the front desk can sort out for you. The 9.1 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s the kind of place where everything just works the way it should, without any unpleasant surprises. I’d definitely stay here again, especially for longer trips where you want that home-away-from-home feeling but with someone else handling the housekeeping.

• Central location, good value for money but unprofessional managers! – Anonymous from Greece – 16 June 2025 (5/10)

  We had booked a taxi to pick us up and he was not there with a sign to pick us up. We had to call via a Greek number and he came. Of course they overcharged us 25 dollars for the taxi where the price is 20AZN (6 dollars). I already had informed the manager we were coming at 4 a.m in the morning and he could not comprehend that 4 am is morning and not evening. He offered us an apartement to sleep for 3 hours but he denied that when we spoke on whatsapp before we arrived in Baku he reassured me that he was not going to charge us. But he charged us 100 AZN for 3 hours. Fine we paid him what he asked. He sent us a receipt for the payment 4 days after I asked him because he could have claimed that we never paid him off! He came to the flat to pick up the cash the next day. But when we asked for extra toilet paper and 2 towels, he never came to leave them.I sent messages so many times but he ignored me. The managers were not helpful at all and never responded to our needs. On the other hand, the apartment was clean, big and in a great location with a supermarket at the bottom and very close Nizami Metro Station.
  
  What could be improved: The inefficiency of the two managers. At the airport the shock we got when there was no taxi driver for us at 4 in the morning. Then when Amil charged us another 100 AZN because our aparment was not ready so for the 3 hours we slept in a different apt, we are charged although he reassured me we would stay for free. During our whole stay Amil never replied to my Whatsapp messages while Karim the sub manager was the one who came to pick up the money but he ignored my messages for 4-5 days asking for toilet paper and 2 towels which he never brought. We bought our toilet paper eventually. When the time came for a review upon my return to Greece, he asked us to write a nice review! So we didn't risk booking a taxi with them because we would not have arrived at the airport with their lack of communication. They should get their act together and be more professional.
