When you first walk up to number 15, it honestly doesn’t look like much from the street (most buildings in this part of the city center don’t), but once you’re inside apartment 56, you realize someone put serious thought into making this feel like an actual home rather than just another rental space. The location is what really sold me though – you’re literally a five-minute walk from Fountain Square, which means you can stumble back from dinner without dealing with taxis or the metro, but you’re tucked away enough that you don’t get the weekend noise that plagues some of the places right on Nizami Street.
What I loved most was how the space actually works for families – and I mean really works, not just the usual “we threw in a sofa bed and called it family-friendly” approach. The kitchen has everything you need if you want to grab stuff from the Bravo market around the corner and cook breakfast (the kids were obsessed with the local honey we found there). The apartment gets this amazing light in the mornings, probably because it faces the right direction to catch the sun coming off the Caspian. You know what surprised me? The water pressure is fantastic, which honestly isn’t something you can take for granted in older Baku buildings. The whole place feels properly maintained – like someone actually lives there and cares about it, rather than just seeing it as an investment property.
I mean, calling it “5-star” might sound like marketing fluff, but the attention to detail backs it up. There’s fast WiFi (tested it myself, no dead zones), the air conditioning actually works properly (crucial during those brutal July afternoons), and they’ve got blackout curtains that’ll save your life if you’re dealing with jet lag. The building itself is quiet – you get the occasional sound from Əhməd Cavad street, but it’s more like gentle city hum than actual traffic noise. Honestly, the only minor thing I’d mention is that the elevator can be a bit slow, but that’s pretty standard for this area and it’s perfectly reliable. If you’re trying to decide between this and one of the big hotels near the Old City, I’d go with this – you’ll save money, get more space, and still be close enough to walk to Icherisheher when you want that postcard-perfect Azerbaijan experience. Plus, staying in this neighborhood gives you a better sense of how actual Bakuvians live, which is worth something.
