You know what struck me first about the Hyatt Regency Baku? It’s actually tucked away on Izmir Street in Yasamal, which sounds quiet but honestly puts you right where you want to be without the chaos of being smack in the Old City tourist zone. I mean, you’re still close enough to walk to the Flame Towers if you’re feeling ambitious, but far enough that you won’t hear drunk tourists stumbling around at 2 AM.

The lobby hits you with this mix of modern glass and subtle nods to Azerbaijani design – they didn’t go overboard with the cultural theming, which I appreciated. Check-in was smooth (they actually spoke decent English, which isn’t a given everywhere in Baku), and the staff seemed genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions. The rooms are what you’d expect from a proper 5-star Hyatt – spacious, clean, with those floor-to-ceiling windows that make you feel like you’re floating above the city. The beds are legitimately comfortable, and I’m usually pretty picky about mattresses. One small thing though – the bathroom marble can get pretty slippery when wet, so just watch your step after a shower.

What really sold me on this place was the breakfast spread and the way they handle the little details. The restaurant serves this incredible mix of international stuff alongside proper Azerbaijani dishes – you can have your standard eggs Benedict but also try some really good plov without feeling like you’re at a tourist trap. The pool area is surprisingly peaceful considering you’re in the middle of a busy neighborhood, and they’ve got this rooftop situation where you can actually see the Caspian on clear days. Parking isn’t a nightmare either, which honestly makes a huge difference if you’re planning to rent a car and explore outside the city. The 8.5 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind with groundbreaking luxury, but everything just works the way it should. The internet is fast, the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a jet engine, and room service doesn’t take forever. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need, especially if you’re using Baku as a base to explore the rest of Azerbaijan.

  Staff were very friendly and extremely helpful, they were obviously proud of their country and keen to share their passion. The swimming pool was fantastic and whilst not owned by the Hotel, the staff were very attentive. Buffet style breakfast so definitely something for everyone, some interesting selections to be had. It's a good location for different bus routes which is a great way to get around.
  
  What could be improved: The hotel is a little tired, is it a 5* I would say not. We did have an issue with our room but was resolved in next to no time so not going to be too negative, given we didn't spend much time in the room it was suitable for our needs.

  Lovely property. The hotel is centrally located. Right from the moment you enter the hotel right up to the room, everything was perfect. The staff is very professional, courteous and very helpful. The breakfast spread was fantastic. The chef was present there himself with a smile on his face, ready to answer all questions.

  The property has all the facilities, whatever you need including ironing supplies. We also had breakfast — it is various yet balanced, you can have orange fresh, freshly cooked omelet, granola, all kinds of bread, freshly brewed coffee. The staff is very helpful and polite.
