The location is actually brilliant if you know Baku at all. Sabayil district puts you right in the sweet spot – you’re close enough to the Old City that you can walk there in about fifteen minutes (though honestly, grab a taxi if it’s hot because Baku summers are no joke), but far enough away that you’re not dealing with tourist crowds every time you step outside. Zarifa Aliyeva Street itself is pretty quiet, which I appreciated since some friends had warned me about noise issues in other parts of the city. The building’s got that solid Soviet-era construction, so you won’t hear your neighbors shuffling around at night.

What really sold me on the place was how thoughtfully it’s set up. The kitchen actually has everything you need – and I’m talking proper knives, decent cookware, not those flimsy hotel kitchenette basics. There’s a local market just two blocks down where I grabbed fresh pomegranates and that incredible Azerbaijani cheese (the salty white one, if you know). The living space feels genuinely lived-in rather than staged, with comfortable furniture that’s clearly been chosen by someone who understands how people actually relax. The Wi-Fi is solid too, which matters if you’re trying to upload photos of the Flame Towers or video chat with family back home. I spent a good chunk of one evening just sitting by the window, watching the city settle into dusk – you get partial views of the Caspian if you crane your neck a bit, though I wouldn’t call it a sea view exactly. The shower pressure is fantastic (seriously, after a day walking around in Baku heat, this matters), and they’ve got proper blackout curtains, which saved me during those long summer days when the sun barely seems to set. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no hovering desk clerk, just clear instructions and keys that actually work on the first try.
