Four Seasons Hotel Baku Overview
You know what hits you first at the Four Seasons Baku? It’s not just the marble lobby or the staff in crisp uniforms – it’s actually the smell. There’s this subtle blend of sea air and expensive wood polish that somehow makes perfect sense once you realize you’re basically on the doorstep of the Caspian Sea. The place sits right on Neftchilar Avenue, which is honestly one of the best spots you could ask for in Baku. You’re a five-minute walk from the Old City (locals call it Icherisheher), and the Flame Towers are literally staring you down from across the bay. I mean, the view from the higher floors is pretty spectacular, especially at sunset when those towers start their light show.
The rooms are… well, they’re exactly what you’d expect from Four Seasons, but with these really thoughtful touches that feel distinctly Azerbaijani. The bathrooms have heated floors – which you don’t think you need until you’re padding around at 6 AM and your feet are actually warm. The beds are seriously comfortable (I’m talking about that perfect firmness that doesn’t leave you sinking or feeling like you’re sleeping on concrete), and the soundproofing is legit. Baku can get pretty lively, especially during oil conference season when the city fills up with business travelers, but you won’t hear any of the street noise from Neftchilar Avenue. What really impressed me was the concierge team – they actually know the city beyond the tourist spots. Ask them about the best place for plov, and they won’t just send you to the hotel restaurant. They’ll tell you about this little place in Yasamal district where the locals go.
The spa area is where things get interesting though. They’ve got this treatment that uses Naftalan oil – it’s this local therapeutic oil that’s been used here for centuries. Sounds weird, feels amazing. The pool deck gives you these panoramic views of the Caspian, and it’s usually pretty quiet during weekday mornings. Honestly, the only downside is that parking can be a bit of a puzzle during peak season (summer gets crazy busy), but the valet team has it figured out. The breakfast spread is extensive without being overwhelming – they do this incredible fresh honeycomb that’s sourced from somewhere in the Caucasus mountains, and their take on traditional Azerbaijani breakfast is actually authentic, not some watered-down hotel version. At 9.5 rating, it’s not just living up to the Four Seasons reputation – it’s honestly one of those places that makes you understand why Baku is becoming such a destination. The city’s got this amazing energy where Soviet history meets oil money meets genuine Caucasian hospitality, and this hotel captures that perfectly.
