Look, I’ll be honest – when I first rolled up to EVORA Apartment on Lev Tolstoy Street, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The address sounds fancy (I mean, it’s named after the Russian writer), but this part of Nasimi district is actually pretty laid-back compared to the flashier areas around Flame Towers. What surprised me was how much I ended up liking that about it.

The building itself has this understated elegance that feels more European than typical Baku – you know what I mean? It’s not trying too hard to impress, but the details are there when you look. The apartment I stayed in had these enormous windows that actually open (thank god, because sometimes you just want fresh Caspian air instead of AC), and the morning light streaming in was honestly gorgeous. The kitchen was way better equipped than most hotel kitchens – I’m talking proper cookware, not those sad little coffee makers and mini fridges you usually get. Perfect if you want to grab some fresh pomegranates and cheese from the local markets and actually make breakfast instead of hunting for tourist-priced hotel food.

What really sold me on this place was the neighborhood vibe. Lev Tolstoy Street has this great mix of local life and accessibility – there’s a small café about two blocks down where the owner speaks decent English and makes killer khachapuri (Georgian cheese bread, but trust me on this), and you’re close enough to walk to the Old City when you feel like doing the tourist thing. The metro isn’t right outside your door, but it’s an easy walk, and honestly, the taxis here are cheap enough that it doesn’t matter. Parking was surprisingly painless too, which anyone who’s driven in Baku will tell you is no small miracle. The only thing I’d warn about is that weekday mornings can get a bit noisy with traffic – not terrible, but if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe pack earplugs or request a room facing the courtyard. The staff was pretty accommodating about stuff like that, though. Check-in was smooth, none of that bureaucratic paperwork nightmare you sometimes get in this part of the world. They actually seemed to know what they were doing, had my reservation ready, and even gave me some decent recommendations for dinner spots that weren’t just the obvious touristy places. For a 4-star place, it punches above its weight – feels more personal than a big chain hotel, but with the amenities you actually want.
