Entire house in Baku Overview
Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places around Baku, but this entire house on Bilajari descent genuinely surprised me – and I mean that in the best way possible. You know how sometimes you book a place online and cross your fingers it’ll actually match the photos? Well, this one delivered, and then some.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience Baku like a local rather than just another tourist. Bilajari descent isn’t right in the thick of the Old City chaos (which, don’t get me wrong, has its charm), but you’re still close enough to walk to Icherisheher when you want that medieval atmosphere. What I really loved is how quiet it gets in the evenings – you can actually open the windows and hear… well, not much except the occasional call to prayer echoing from the distance. The house itself feels authentically Azerbaijani without being overly touristy about it. The rooms have this lived-in comfort that makes you want to sprawl out with a book, and honestly, the kitchen was better equipped than my own apartment back home. I ended up cooking more than I planned because, well, the local markets are just a short walk away and the pomegranates were incredible that week.
Here’s what really sold me on the place – the little details that someone clearly thought through. The water pressure is fantastic (you’d be surprised how rare that can be), there’s actual closet space for longer stays, and the Wi-Fi doesn’t mysteriously disappear every time it rains. The host left these handwritten notes about which marshrutka routes to take and where to find the best plov nearby, which saved me so much wandering around with Google Translate. I mean, getting a 9.8 rating isn’t just luck – it’s because places like this actually care about the experience. The only tiny thing I’d mention is that if you’re not used to Baku’s hills, that descent can be a bit of a climb when you’re coming back with groceries, but honestly, it’s worth it for how peaceful the neighborhood is. Plus, you’ll work off all that delicious Azerbaijani bread you’ll inevitably eat too much of. If you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re living somewhere rather than just passing through, this is your spot.
