I mean, you’re literally staying in a piece of Baku’s history here – this place has been around since 1870, and honestly, they’ve done something pretty remarkable with the restoration. It’s not one of those sterile “historic” hotels where they gut everything and slap on fake antiques. The character is real, from the thick walls that keep the street noise down (trust me, this matters in central Sabayil) to the high ceilings that make even the smaller apartments feel spacious.

The location is what really makes this place special though. You’re right in the heart of Old City – I could literally walk to Shirvanshah’s Palace in about three minutes, and the Maiden Tower is practically next door. But here’s the thing locals know: this particular stretch of Boyuk Qala is just far enough from the main tourist drag that you’re not dealing with crowds outside your window at 7 AM, but close enough that you can stumble back from dinner at one of those amazing restaurants near the Caspian without calling a taxi. The apartment setup works brilliantly too – I had a proper kitchen (rare for hotels here), which meant I could grab fresh pomegranates and cheese from the market down the street and actually enjoy them properly. The staff clearly knows their stuff; check-in was smooth even though I arrived during Novruz when half of Baku seems to be in chaos.

What really impressed me was how they balanced the historic elements with actual comfort. The bathrooms are modern (thank god), the wifi actually works throughout the building – even in the thicker-walled units – and the heating system handles Baku’s unpredictable weather perfectly. I stayed there in March when it was doing that thing where it’s 15 degrees and sunny one day, then 5 and windy the next, and the apartment stayed comfortable throughout. The 9.7 rating makes complete sense when you experience it – it’s that rare place where the history feels authentic, the amenities actually work, and the location gives you the best of both worlds. Plus, and this might sound weird, but the building has this lived-in quality that makes you feel like you’re staying in Baku rather than just visiting it. If you’re the type who wants to explore the Old City properly instead of just taking selfies at the famous spots, this is exactly where you want to base yourself.

  We had a last-minute booking after our original apartment canceled, and I'm so glad we found Apartment History 1870 instead! Even though it was past midnight, the host still replied to my message, which was such a relief.
  
  A big shoutout to Nariman, the staff member who really made our stay smooth and enjoyable. He was super helpful, always checking in to make sure we had everything we needed, and responded very quickly to any questions. From the beginning to the end of our 3-day, 2-night stay, he was just amazing!
  
  The location is top-notch, just a short walk to the Maiden Tower in Old Town Baku and close to many attractions. The apartment itself was spotless, very comfortable, and fully equipped with everything you need. I honestly think the owner must be very detail-oriented, because everything was well thought out and exactly as shown in the pictures.
  
  We also felt really safe during our stay, there were security cameras around the main entrance and stairways, which was reassuring.
  
  Overall, this apartment is a great value for money, especially considering the prime location and the quality of service. I definitely recommend Apartment History 1870 for anyone visiting Baku. Would absolutely stay here again!

  This place is a must to discover Baku Old Town. The apartment is unique and beautiful but convenient and quiet. All service from the owners is just like if you were a king or a queen. To assist you in changing currency for the best rate, to find the best local guide speaking your language or to buy a special food for maybe your special diet – everything is possible in this place.
