Honestly, when I first pulled up to Apartment Continental on Bül-Bül Street, I wasn’t sure what to expect – the address sounds almost poetic, doesn’t it? But this place genuinely surprised me. What struck me most was how they’ve managed to feel both upscale and genuinely welcoming at the same time. The lobby has this understated elegance – marble floors that don’t echo like crazy, which you’d appreciate if you’ve stayed in some of those other “luxury” places around Baku. The staff actually remembers your name after the first day, and they know the neighborhood like the back of their hand. When I asked about getting to the Flame Towers for sunset photos, the concierge didn’t just point me toward a taxi – he told me exactly which pedestrian route to take through the old streets and warned me about the construction on Azadliq Square that week. That’s the kind of local insight you just can’t fake.

The rooms themselves are spacious in a way that’s becoming rare, honestly. I stayed in one of the apartments (hence the name, I suppose) and had a proper living area, not just a chair crammed next to the bed. The kitchen was actually functional – I’m talking full-size refrigerator and a stove that works, not some mini-bar setup. Super helpful when you want to store those amazing pomegranates from Taza Bazar or heat up some fresh bread from the bakeries on Nizami Street. The beds are properly firm, the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a helicopter, and the Wi-Fi actually reaches every corner of the room – small things that matter when you’re trying to work or just relax after walking around the city all day.

Location-wise, you’re in this sweet spot where you feel connected to historic Baku without being right in the tourist chaos. It’s quiet enough to sleep well – the street doesn’t get heavy traffic – but you can walk to Icherisheher in about eight minutes, or catch a taxi to the modern city center in maybe fifteen. There’s a great little tea house just around the corner that locals actually use, not just tourists, and the woman who runs it makes this incredible plov on Fridays. The hotel staff told me about it, which says something about how plugged in they are to the neighborhood.

I mean, five stars might sound excessive for what’s essentially an apartment hotel, but the attention to detail here is real. They don’t overwhelm you with unnecessary services, but what they do offer works seamlessly. Check-in was smooth, housekeeping is thorough without being intrusive, and when my flight got delayed, they held my room without any drama or extra fees. Sometimes the best luxury is just having things work the way they should, you know?
