When you’re walking around Baku’s Old City area, you get tired of dodging tour groups, so finding a place that feels like locals might actually stay there was refreshing. The building itself has that solid, unpretentious vibe that a lot of four-star places in this part of the world nail really well – not trying too hard to be flashy, just doing the basics right.

The location is sort of perfect if you want to be close to everything without being right in the thick of it. I mean, you’re maybe a ten-minute walk from all the main sights in Icherisheher, but when you come back in the evening, it’s actually quiet enough to sleep without earplugs. The staff genuinely seemed to know the neighborhood – like, they didn’t just hand me a tourist map, they actually told me which bakery opens earliest (turns out it’s the one two streets over) and warned me that the main road gets crazy during rush hour. Little things like that make a difference when you’re trying to feel less like a tourist, you know?

Honestly, the rooms are what you’d expect from a decent four-star – clean, comfortable beds, reliable wifi, hot water that actually stays hot. Nothing blew me away, but nothing disappointed either, which at this price point in Baku is actually pretty good. The breakfast was solid – not Instagram-worthy, but they had fresh bread and decent coffee, plus some local stuff mixed in with the standard European spread. What I appreciated most was that it felt authentic to where you are – you’re not getting the same generic hotel experience you could have anywhere else. The whole place has this lived-in quality that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something rather than just booked something online. It’s the kind of hotel that gets a 7 out of 10 because it does everything well without any major flaws, even if it’s not going to change your life or anything.
