Look, when I first pulled up to the Alba Hotel & Spa on Əhməd Rəcəbli street, I’ll be honest – I wasn’t expecting much from the outside. It’s tucked into this pretty residential area that most tourists completely miss, which actually turned out to be one of its biggest advantages. You’re maybe a ten-minute walk from Nizami Street if you want the shopping chaos, but here? It’s refreshingly quiet, especially at night when you’re trying to sleep off all that plov.

The thing about Alba is that it tries really hard to be luxurious – and mostly succeeds, though there are these little quirks that remind you you’re not at the Four Seasons. The lobby’s got this gleaming marble thing going on, very dramatic with the lighting, but then you’ll notice the elevator takes forever and makes these interesting mechanical sounds. The spa (which, let’s be real, is why most people book here) is genuinely impressive though. I mean, after spending days walking around Baku’s Old City in the heat, that steam room basically saved my life. The massage therapists actually know what they’re doing too – not just going through the motions like some hotel spas.

What really won me over was the breakfast situation. They’ve got this mix of Azerbaijani and continental options, and honestly, watching them make fresh qutab in the morning while you’re sipping decent coffee is pretty perfect. The staff speaks solid English, which isn’t always a given in Baku, and they’re genuinely helpful about getting taxis or recommendations – not just handing you a generic tourist map. The rooms are comfortable enough, though the AC can be a bit temperamental (pro tip: figure out the controls early because the instructions are… creative). You know what surprised me? The soundproofing is actually really good. Even though you’re in the city, you don’t get the usual Baku traffic symphony at 6 AM.

The 7.6 rating makes sense to me – it’s solidly good without being extraordinary. There’s clearly money invested here, and it shows in the details that matter, but it’s not trying to be something it’s not. If you’re looking for that authentic luxury Baku experience, you’re probably heading to the Fairmont. But if you want a genuinely comfortable place that feels more intimate, where the staff remembers your name after day two, Alba delivers. Plus, and this matters more than you’d think, the location means you can actually experience a bit of regular Baku life – there’s this little bakery two blocks down that opens at dawn and makes the best fresh bread you’ll find outside someone’s grandmother’s kitchen.

  Clean and neat Hotel, worth of money and staffs have great attitude especially Nihad and Jalal, thanks for everything. Location is near Heydar Aliyev Center and 15 to 20 minutes Bolt riding from downtown.
