But once you’re inside, it’s like discovering a secret that locals have been keeping to themselves.

The thing is, this isn’t your typical Baku hotel experience. I mean, forget about those massive chain places near the Flame Towers that charge you an arm and a leg just for the postcard view. Zarastay actually feels like staying at someone’s beautifully designed home – which, come to think of it, is probably exactly what they were going for with the name. The rooms have this lived-in elegance that’s hard to fake, with proper wooden furniture (not that laminate stuff) and windows that actually open to let in the Caspian breeze. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – no endless paperwork or trying to upsell you on breakfast packages you don’t want.

What really won me over was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about whether you found what you needed in the city. They’ll point you toward the good kebab places in the nearby neighborhoods, not just the touristy spots in Old City that everyone already knows about. And honestly, being on this street puts you in a sweet spot – you’re close enough to walk to the main attractions when you want to, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with tour bus noise at 7 AM. The neighborhood has that authentic Baku feel, where you’ll see families heading to the local market in the morning and smell fresh bread from the bakeries around the corner. Parking isn’t a nightmare either, which anyone who’s driven in Baku will tell you is practically a miracle. I stayed there during spring when the weather was perfect for wandering around, and I could easily walk to different parts of the city without feeling like I was starting each day from the middle of nowhere. The whole place just works in a way that makes you want to come back – and considering it somehow manages a perfect 10 rating, I’m clearly not the only one who feels that way.
