Shirvanshah Hotel Overview
You know what hit me first walking into the Shirvanshah? The lobby actually smells like expensive marble instead of that generic hotel air freshener most places pump in. I mean, this is proper luxury – we’re talking about a 5-star spot right in the heart of Sabayil district, and honestly, they don’t mess around with the details. The whole place has this sophisticated weight to it, if that makes sense. Heavy doors, thick carpets, the kind of quiet that money buys.
The location is pretty brilliant, actually. Gesr Street isn’t one of those main drags that tourists usually hear about, but that’s exactly why it works. You’re literally a few minutes’ walk from the Old City walls – and I’m talking about the real medieval stuff, not some reconstruction – but you’re tucked away enough that you won’t hear tour groups chattering under your window at 7 AM. The Caspian waterfront is right there too, which means evening walks that don’t require planning or taxi rides. Parking can be a bit tricky (this is Baku, after all), but the hotel staff knows the neighborhood and they’ll sort you out.
What really surprised me was how the staff handles things. Check-in was smooth, sure, but they actually remember your name after day one, which is rarer than you’d think even at this level. The rooms – well, they’ve got that polished elegance without feeling like a museum. Good blackout curtains (crucial if you’re dealing with jet lag), decent water pressure, and the AC actually works properly during those brutal Baku summers. The 8.5 rating makes sense to me because while everything functions beautifully, it’s not trying to reinvent hospitality or wow you with gimmicks. It’s just… really well done classic luxury. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want, especially if you’re in town for business or if you’ve been bouncing around budget places and need to reset. The restaurant doesn’t pretend to be the best in Baku (there’s too much competition for that), but the breakfast spread is genuinely impressive and they do a solid job with both local and international dishes. Honestly, for the location and the quality, it feels like good value in a city where luxury hotels can easily run wild with pricing.

The hotel is in a perfect location to move for work but also for tourism to see the city. It requires a few minutes walk to go to the seaside and the main attractions. Location is inside the old city with a lot of sightseeing and facilities as good restaurants, shops etc. Even the metro station is two minutes walk from the hotel.
The hotel is perfectly managed and the staff is friendly and very professional. They try to make you comfortable and to offer their help for any need. In other words they are very professional.
For sure will come back again in this hotel.
What could be improved: Cannot figure something I did not like. The best place to stay in Baku – Jakub from United Arab Emirates – 30 June 2025 (10/10)
An amazing hotel just right in the old city, walking distance to all main sights in the old city and also Nizami Street, the main commercial street, Baku waterfront boulevard and next to the metro station in case you need to use it. Also the rooftop restaurant has an amazing view on the Flame Towers. Plus, the staff were super friendly and nice. Definitely your best bet to stay in Baku.

It's a very nice hotel in the old part of the city in Baku. It has a nice small gym and a nice small spa with 2 saunas. Everything you need on your business trip to work out and relax. The staff was nice, breaky OK and the hotel has a nice restaurant on the top.
What could be improved: The taxi can't enter that part of the old city, but it's not a big deal as it can pick up you up / drop about 5 min walk from the hotel.Superb – Jolanta from Poland – 7 March 2025 (9/10)
Thank you the whole staff for the great hospitality, service and kindness.
Recommended – Jelica from Serbia – 26 February 2025 (10/10)
very friendly staff; free coffee, water and tea; iron and iron board on request; umbrella on request; excellent location; clean; good breakfast
What could be improved: the kitchen should be more equipped; only hotel taxi can go all the way to the hotel, others drop off in front of the walls of the old town
