Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to Port Boutique Hotel on Yusif Mammadaliyev Street – I mean, boutique hotels can be hit or miss, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way. The location is pretty brilliant if you ask me, tucked right in Sabayil where you can practically feel the Caspian breeze without dealing with all the tourist chaos near the Flame Towers. You’re maybe a ten-minute walk from the Old City walls, and there’s this great little bakery around the corner that locals actually go to (not just hotel guests).

What really got me was how they’ve managed to feel both polished and genuinely welcoming at the same time. The lobby has this warm, lived-in elegance – sort of like staying at a well-traveled friend’s place who happens to have excellent taste. The staff actually remembers your name after day one, which sounds small but makes such a difference when you’re trying to navigate a new city. And speaking of navigation, they gave me walking directions that avoided the construction mess on Nizami Street that was happening during my stay. That’s the kind of local insight you can’t get from generic hotel chains.

The rooms are what you’d hope for from a 4-star place, but with thoughtful touches that show someone actually thinks about what travelers need. Blackout curtains that actually work (thank god, because Baku summers mean sunrise at like 5 AM), USB ports where you can reach them from the bed, and – this might sound weird – but the shower pressure was honestly perfect. You know how hotel showers are usually either fire hose or gentle mist? This was just right. The street is quiet enough that you won’t hear traffic all night, but you’re still close enough to everything that matters. I could walk to decent restaurants, the Boulevard when I wanted to see the water, or catch a taxi to the airport without any drama. The whole experience felt effortless in a way that made me want to extend my stay, which – let’s be real – doesn’t happen that often.
