Pera Hotel Baku Overview
So I ended up at the Pera Hotel Baku almost by accident – my original booking fell through, and honestly, I’m kind of glad it did. This place sits right in the heart of İçərişəhər, which is Baku’s Old City, and I mean RIGHT in it. You’re literally walking on cobblestones that have been there for centuries, surrounded by these ancient stone walls that make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The hotel itself is tucked away on Asəf Zeynallı street, and you know what? That’s actually perfect because you get all the character without the tourist bus chaos that hits some of the main thoroughfares.
The building has this really nice blend going on – they’ve kept the historical vibe but made everything feel fresh and comfortable. My room had these thick stone walls that kept things surprisingly quiet, even though there’s usually some activity in the Old City during the day. The staff actually knows the area, which sounds obvious but you’d be surprised how many hotel workers in tourist areas are just going through the motions. These folks will tell you which direction to head for the best views of the Caspian Sea, or where to grab proper Azerbaijani tea without paying tourist prices. I mean, the Maiden Tower is basically a five-minute walk away, but they’ll also point you toward the smaller museums and workshops that most people miss entirely.
What really got me was the attention to details that actually matter when you’re traveling. The Wi-Fi works everywhere (tested it in the lobby, room, even the stairwells because I’m paranoid like that), and the breakfast setup runs late enough that you don’t have to rush if you’re not a morning person. The neighborhood gets pretty lively in the evenings – there’s this whole scene with locals and visitors mixing around the nearby cafés and art galleries – but the hotel rooms stay quiet. Those old walls are thick, I guess. Parking can be a bit tricky in the Old City, but they’ve got arrangements sorted out, and honestly, you probably won’t need a car much once you’re there anyway. The Shirvanshah’s Palace complex is right there, the hammams are within walking distance, and when you want to head to modern Baku, it’s easy enough to catch transport. I’ve stayed in fancier places that felt sterile, and budget spots with more character but questionable plumbing – this one hits that sweet spot where you get the atmosphere and history without sacrificing comfort. Plus, with a 9.1 rating, I wasn’t the only one who felt that way.

Great hotel in Old Town – Maggie from Canada – 14 June 2025 (10/10)
This is a great hotel in a good location in Old Town. It is very quiet. Rooms are clean and spacious, beds are comfortable, shower is good. Air conditionng works well, as does wifi. The breakfast is excellent with many choices- 3 types of eggs, cold cuts, cheese, olives, yogurt, local breads and pastry, cookies, coffee, tea. The staff are very friendly and helpful and speak English. We extended our stay in the hotel.
What could be improved: The drains smell but keep the toilet lid down and bathroom door closed and it's fine in the room.Good quality according to price. – Melih from Turkey – 12 June 2025 (10/10)
