You know what struck me first about Garden Cottage? The name actually makes sense – and that’s rarer than you’d think with hotel names these days. I mean, it really does feel like staying at someone’s well-appointed garden cottage, just one that happens to be incredibly convenient to everything you need in Baku. The location on Zagulba yolu is honestly perfect if you’re flying in or out (you can literally hear planes, but it’s more of a gentle hum than annoying noise), and the beach access is legit – not one of those “near beach” situations where you need a taxi and three transfers.

The whole setup has this relaxed, residential vibe that I wasn’t expecting from a 4-star place. The staff treats you like you’re staying with family friends rather than checking boxes on some corporate hospitality checklist. Check-in was smooth, parking was actually available (miracle in this part of Baku), and the rooms have these little touches that show someone who lives here was involved in the design decisions. The garden area – which is where that cottage name comes from – is genuinely lovely in the evenings, especially during spring and early fall when the weather’s cooperating. I spent way more time out there than I planned, honestly.

What really sets this place apart is how it bridges that gap between feeling local and being practical for travelers. You’re close enough to central Baku to explore easily, but far enough from the touristy chaos to actually relax. The 9.3 rating isn’t inflated – people genuinely seem happy here, and I get why. It’s one of those places where the details work: decent WiFi, hot water that stays hot, air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a helicopter, and breakfast that includes actual local items alongside the standard international stuff. The proximity to Heydar Aliyev International means you could literally arrive, enjoy Baku for a day or two, and catch an early flight without stress – but it’s comfortable enough that you’d want to stay longer if your schedule allows.

  Our stay was wonderful. We extended our initial stay because we didn’t want to leave, and then we came back again at the end of our holiday! The cottage is very spacious, warm, very comfortable for a family of five, with everything we needed. The kitchen was very well-equipped, and it was home from home. Everything was spotlessly clean, and the beds were comfortable so we always slept well. Outside the chickens and the friendly cats kept my children happy. Last but not least, the people are exceptionally kind and attentive, and made us feel very welcome. This won’t be our last visit! Baku is a short drive away, there are supermarkets and restaurants very close by, so we were always able to pick up groceries on the way home after days out.

  We were a family of 6 with two teens and two children. Although there are areas that need improvements, we liked the cottage so much we stayed there twice on our trip.
  
  Location: This is a small cottage in a compound. Its about 20-30 mins away from the main city and near to airport. You can reach the location through a car or on public transport. Its not easy to spot as the whole area is behind an outer wall that runs all the way through on that highway. The entrance is difficult if you are in a large car but not impossible, it needs some practice and some back and forth. Ample parking inside.
  
  Cottage: The cottage is located in a rectangular compound and at the end of a long driveway. At the gate there is a small single story house where the house keeper Ramiz lives. He doesn’t speaks English but is a super helpful person. Then is a garden which doesn’t have any grass but a lot of trees and small plants. Then is the cottage which has its only bathroom, lounge and kitchen on ground floor and two rooms on first floor. On the back there is a similar cottage (in better condition) where probably the host lives.
  
  Facilities: There is nothing that you may need and is not provided. Kitchen has everything that you need to cook or make breakfast. Bathroom is large and clean. The lounge has a L shaped sofa and a large dining table for 8. One bedroom upstairs is large and well maintained. The other is a children’s room which is small. Two air conditioners – one in the large bedroom upstairs and the other installed in a strange place, which is middle of the staircase which will cool the lounge downstairs. There is a patio outside and a barbeque pit. The cottage is very well equipped with all amenities and cookware, ample beddings and sheets, towels etc. Kitchen is so cute you would want to model your kitchen like that. There is a washing machine, a dish washer, an oven and a microwave. Even a sandwich press is provided. You just need to do your own groceries.
  
  What could be improved: Comfort: Here we had some issues. The sofa and beds and all are all used up and sagging. The sofa can be slept upon but you will feel that its sagged in the middle and the corners are up. The mattress in kids room is so used up you will feel the springs poking through your body and is uneven. When asked, the host did provide a thick overlay for that, but it still remains uncomfortable. No AC in kids room. So the sleep quality is where the cottage seriously falls short. Also its for 6 people maximum and not 9 as shown on booking.com. Outside patio furniture is old and uncomfortable. Towels are like sand paper.
  
  Host: The host is connected with you on whatsapp only in good English. Response time is not great but you get a response in about 15-30 minutes. The care taker Ramiz is the solution for all issues.
  
  Overall: We enjoyed the stay as the kids had a great time with the many cats that appeared once we reached there. We had a great time sitting outside under the tree enjoying fresh figs and grapes. And yes we will go there again.
  
  Recommendation: The host needs to understand that they cannot just simply put all old and used stuff in the cottage. If they want to operate this as a business, they need to invest in it specially improve the sleep quality. They need to put in some comfortable new mattresses, sofa-cum-beds, comfortable outside patio furniture, softer towels. Secondly, some support to be provided for guests if they want to order some food or some toiletries or washing powder delivered.

  Host is very friendly. His family live next door with shared common area. They are very friendly and respected our privacy. The apartment is well equipped. Host responds very quickly.

  There are a lot of frogs in the garden, which maybe good (kids like it) or bad (you maybe afraid).
