You know what caught me off guard about Apartment Blue Cloud? I was expecting some generic serviced apartment based on the name, but honestly, this place feels more like staying in a really well-appointed friend’s flat – if your friend happens to have impeccable taste and lives right in the heart of Old City.

The location on Nizami Street is actually perfect if you want to be in the thick of things without dealing with the chaos of Fountain Square every time you step outside. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Maiden Tower, and there’s this little bakery two doors down that does incredible qutab in the mornings – the kind of spot you’d never find unless you were staying right there. The building itself is one of those beautifully restored 19th-century structures, so you get those high ceilings and original moldings, but everything inside feels completely modern. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – no hovering desk clerk, just smooth key handover and genuine local recommendations.

What really won me over, though, was how they’ve managed to make a five-star place feel actually livable. The apartment I stayed in had this gorgeous marble bathroom (probably too fancy for my usual travel style, but I’m not complaining), and the kitchen was properly equipped – not just a mini-fridge and microwave situation. The bed was one of those firm European-style mattresses that takes a night to get used to, but then you sleep like a rock. And here’s something small but important: the windows actually block out street noise, which matters because Nizami can get pretty lively, especially on weekend evenings when people are heading to the restaurants down toward the Caspian.

I’ll be honest, the 8.5 rating makes sense – it’s not quite hitting that perfect 9+ territory, probably because the wifi gets a bit spotty in the evenings (when everyone’s streaming, I guess), and the air conditioning unit makes this occasional clicking sound. Nothing deal-breaking, just… not flawless. But what really impressed me was how the whole setup feels designed for people who actually travel, not just pass through. There’s proper closet space, multiple outlets where you need them, and – this might sound weird – but the lighting is actually good for reading. You’d be surprised how many gorgeous hotels get that completely wrong.

The neighborhood comes alive around sunset, when locals start their evening strolls toward Bulvar, and you’re perfectly positioned to either join that flow or duck into one of the courtyard restaurants tucked behind the main street. During my stay in early fall, I could walk to pretty much everything worth seeing in the Old City, and when I needed to venture out to places like Heydar Aliyev Center, grabbing a taxi was never a problem. It’s one of those places where you quickly stop feeling like a tourist and start feeling like you’re just… living somewhere interesting for a while.
