Antique Hotel Baku Overview
You know what strikes you first about the Antique Hotel Baku? It’s actually tucked right into Icherisheher – that’s the Old City for those who haven’t been – and I mean *right* in it. We’re talking about staying inside a UNESCO World Heritage site here, which sounds fancy but honestly just means you’re sleeping where people have been sleeping for centuries. The building itself has this worn-in charm that you either love or find a bit too authentic (depending on your tolerance for creaky floors and walls that have definitely seen better decades).
The location though – that’s where this place really shines. You can literally roll out of bed and be at the Maiden Tower in about two minutes, and the Shirvanshah’s Palace is practically your backyard neighbor. I’ve stayed in fancier hotels in Baku’s newer districts, but there’s something about waking up to the sound of cobblestones instead of traffic that just hits different. The staff actually knows the area too, which isn’t always a given – they’ll point you toward the little tea houses that tourists miss, or tell you which entrance to use for the museums when the main gates are crowded. Check-in was smooth enough, though the lobby’s pretty compact so don’t expect to lounge around there much.
Here’s the thing about staying in Kichik Qala though – it gets quiet at night, almost eerily so after the day-trippers head back to their cruise ships or tour buses. The hotel’s got that solid 4-star comfort level without trying too hard to be something it’s not. Rooms are clean and well-maintained, though some face the narrow streets (character, but also occasional echoes) while others look inward to courtyards. The 8.1 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but it delivers exactly what you’d hope for in a historic property. What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to keep the old-world atmosphere without making you feel like you’re roughing it. Sure, the elevators are a bit slow and the WiFi can be spotty in some corners, but honestly? When you’re this close to centuries of history, spending time scrolling feels like missing the point anyway. If you’re the type who wants to actually experience Baku rather than just visit it, this is your spot.

The exceptional customer service at this hotel impressed me. They were always friendly and asked how our stay was going every time we walked in the door. They were also able to recommend places to get any meal that we needed.🫶🏽

booking was for the West Palace Hotel, but after reaching there, we were told that hotel is completely booked, and we were given to stay at the West Inn. The West Inn hotel was very poor. Staff was not at all good, especially the guy at the reception with glasses during day shift. He was very rude to my wife and myself. room alloted to us was very bad, we had paid for deluxe double room at west palace hotel, but we were lowest room at west inn. Bathroom was semlling very bad.
What could be improved: The room and staff at the hotel were not good.Superb – Hammad from Pakistan – 28 July 2024 (9/10)
